I like to do things on my own. Whether it is grabbing a coffee or going for a run. But don't get me wrong, I love people. I love hearing about people's days and their most precious moments. But if you are always surrounded by others, how do you form into your own?
It wasn't until college began this month that I realized how important it is to create your own "me time." During this "me time," you shouldn't be doing just anything. You should be doing something that you love. Exercise, shopping, coffee, writing, painting your nails. Anything really. All that matters is that you are taking the time out of your day to do something for YOU and no one else.
"Love yourself first and everything else falls into line. You really have to love yourself to get anything done in this world." -Lucille Ball
Loving yourself sounds selfish, but the long-term effects of it are the complete opposite of selfish. When you have the "me time" you deserve, you are able to be a better version of yourself. When you are the best version of yourself, the people around you reap the benefits. When you are the best version of yourself, the world works along with you to bring you to what you need. When you are the best version of yourself, "everything else falls into line."
But being the best version of yourself isn't all that this special "me time" does. By taking time to be with yourself, you are able to sort through the chaos that everyday life brings along. You are able to sort through the opinions, ideas, and challenges that other people bring to the table. Then you are able to form your own opinions, ideas, and challenges. By taking time for self-love, you become your full self.
So my challenge for you is to take just thirty minutes out of your day to do something completely and selfishly for you and only you. Do this for just a week and see the benefits unfold in front of you.
