In this crazy world, it can be difficult to determine which problems are the ones that urgently need to be solved. So many new advertisements show us how everyone must contribute their lives to global causes, such as saving animals and stopping world hunger. While those causes are supremely important along with a large list of others, I am only one human being. Sometimes I find that I can help some situations simply by sorting myself out first. After all, focusing to be the best version of yourself is the best first step towards helping others.
I am usually the type of person who is willing to admit my faults. Somehow, I have been told more than once that sometimes I am too hard on myself, but I really just want to push myself to do whatever is considered my best. I do focus on myself a lot between my school work and my social life. I could call myself selfish and wonder why I don't dedicate my entire time to others, but that would not help anyone in the world. The way I see it, sometimes I can be a total mess of a human being, and I consistently have to make myself a little better each day in order to be proficient enough to help other people.
With my dreams and goals, I tend to be in a starry-eyed daydream about the accomplishments I will make. I also wonder exactly how I will make them happen because I am determined to do so. Thinking about my aspirations as a writer does not mean I am a selfish person who values no other living being other than myself. In fact, I have learned over and over that all writing is to share relatable, sincere stories and emotions with others, and there is nothing selfish about that whatsoever.
I do not consider myself above or below anybody else. I am another human being on this Earth just trying to get through life as best as I can. I will contribute what I am able to in this world, but giving to others does not mean to never think of yourself and vice versa. For those who think that they are selfish and wrong to focus on themselves in their lives, I applaud you, and I hope that we can all choose to live a little more for ourselves from time to time.
