7 Ways To Travel The World On A Budget

Why traveling the world can be a reality

You hear it all the time. “I just want to travel,” “I really want to leave the country,” “I want to see the world.” And as much people really truly want to do these things, often times they give up on these hopes and dreams simply because they think it is unrealistic. These people are wrong. Traveling abroad, although, it may seem expensive can be done with manageable costs through so many different options.

1. A family trip.

Friends are fun, but going places with your parents or siblings can be a unique and fun experience. Seeing new things with loved ones will make great memories and bond one another together with incredible memories . Obviously not everyone has got the means to do so, but it can be a reality. Look online for good hotel deals and offer to put some of your work money towards the cost. It may not seem like a lot, but every penny adds up when it comes to paying for a hotel or buying a plane ticket.

2. A cruise.

Tons of cruise lines have options that go through the caribbean, the mediterranean seas, even on the alaskan coast. Since the boat itself is doing the physical traveling itself, you wouldn’t have to worry about transportation or lodging costs since that is all included in the cruise. The boat will make stops and allow you to visit different cities before you go to your next destination. Depending on what type of package you purchase, cruises can be a great and affordable way to get out there and see new things. With so many places and areas to choose from it will be difficult to decide where not to go.

3. Study abroad in college.

Sure it seems far away, but college is just around the corner and will have so many different options to choose from. Most schools have some type of study abroad program (some better than others) so take the initiative and find out what they have to offer. It can never hurt to ask and find out the information. Schools set it up so broke college kids can afford it by having kids stay in hostels which are a cheaper version of a hotel for young people. Yeah you might have to do some schoolwork, but the experience will last a lifetime.

4. Mission trips.

Volunteering is another way to not only see the world, but do some good in the world. Whether it’s through your school, church, or community, there are tons of ways to travel and make an impact. Many countries around the world are dripping with beauty, but have impoverished or poor areas in them as well. To some traveling abroad looks like laying by a pool with a mimosa, but participating in mission trip with leave you with a worldly experience and a better conscious. Plus a fuller wallet!

5. Work exchange programs.

Although not incredibly common, there are ways to secure a job in another country and work your way to your dreams. This method will take some research and a lot of time to make happen but will reap incredible rewards. Rather than saving up everything beforehand, working abroad will allow you to have income while you’re actually spending. Along with this, work programs are also normally longer which will give you more time to enjoy the culture and your time there. Vacation resorts at the beach and in the mountains are a great place to start looking.

6. Split with your friends.

Everything is cheaper if you split. Food, lodging, transportation, everything. Dividing up the costs of things not only makes it easier on you, but for the people you’re traveling with as well. Tons of countries have Hostels as an option for lodging which is a sort of hotel strictly for young people that costs significantly less. Sacrificing that 5-star hotel and ice cream twice a day is another great way to make ends meet and fly across the ocean.

7. Save!

It’s not easy to look to the future, but long term saving can be the path to a plane ticket abroad. Of course it is a lot easier said than done and won’t be fun to set aside day after day; however, saving up loose change and money from a job can in fact work. Put away that birthday money towards a vacation fund. Ask for cash for christmas and set it aside for the trip. It may seem impossible, but saving is yet another way to make that dream come true.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
