Winter Is Coming, And So Is Seasonal Depression

The seasons are changing slowly but surely. Usually, that means it gets colder or warmer, but for some people, it means that seasonal depression starts setting in.

Seasonal Affective Disorder is a mood disorder characterized by depression that occurs at the same time every year. If you're like most people with SAD, your symptoms start in the fall and continue into the winter months, sapping your energy and making you feel moody. Less often, SAD causes depression in the spring or early summer.

Some signs that you may be suffering from SAD include having problems with sleeping, having low energy, feeling sluggish or agitated, and having difficulty concentrating.

While it may seem like it is bad, there are ways that you can help yourself or anyone who might be dealing with this.

I have been dealing with this for as long as I can remember, I believe it is hereditary as my mom has it as well, it has been hard to be motivated when it gets colder, but I always try as I don't wish to be lying around all day not wanting to do anything.

One of my favorite things do to is write in a journal or just do something creative. It can express how you are feeling at the moment just so you can get it out of your system. The best time to write is at night so then you can reflect on everything that happened during the day.

Another thing that is effective is light therapy. In the winter, sunlight can be very rare so it is very important to take advantage of any sunshine that there is. If that is not possible, you can try a light therapy box It is it brighter than regular light bulbs and has different wavelengths, It is recommended that you sit in front of it for at least 30 minutes a day. You can find them for purchase on Amazon or at any store.

You can also try exercise. It can help with SAD since it would be too cold to go outside an exercise take advantage of gyms, or if you can't afford that there is a lot of different exercises that you can do at home, My personal favorite is doing Zumba and Wii Fit but I am also getting into yoga as well.

It may not be easy as the seasons change but there are always ways that you can get through the winter. It may not be the ideal season for getting things done, but there are ways to get motivated. With a little extra help, you are bound to do great things this season!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
