While Facebook is the social media that has been dying out with the latest generations it is still a popular website to post life updates, pictures, and stay connected with people across the world. Can a social media platform be a viable place to post scientific findings, and new research? One popular science page on Facebook Science Channel with over 8,000,000 likes uses it platform to post interesting findings, and scientific journal articles. Not only does it provide links for articles, it also posts videos which, are becoming the most popular portion of Facebook. In their recent post they provide clips of What On Earth, Myth Busters, and Animal Planet. The page also features photo of the day which is where they show news of animals in the ocean, or other habitats. They provide information about the animal followed by interesting facts about the animals. While Facebook isn't always the most reliable place for news and facts this web page allows younger generations to engage in science from the comfort of their own homes, behind a screen the spend most of their time behind anyway. In these pages they're not addressing a problem, at least not for this page. Its goal is to spread science knowledge around using a very popular social media profile. These pages are relevant to the audience because, they allow the audience to gain access to information from their social media platforms, and in turn is bringing more depth to these social media accounts. They are no longer just for posting selfies, or updates but, they can be used to enhance a persons learning experience. This form of social media is valuable because of the unrestricted access. You only have to create a Facebook account to have access to these pages, and most teens, and young adults have an account already. Not only is this platform valuable, but it is also effective in the fact that the person doesn't have to be liking or following these pages to have this information come up. Since Facebook creates a wall feed based on your previous likes, and others that relate to it these tidbits of information could pop up on any young adults wall. It is also effective in the fact that it creates interest. If a student were to see a post from this page or a video they could possibly become more curious, and want to go research and find out more about it. Inherently creating a curiosity for the field of science. The page also provides numerous images, of the fields and information they are posing. While Facebook is not a platform that uses hashtags like twitter, or Instagram a person can like a post that then links that post to their social media. One thing that Facebook could do to improve their platform is to create a way for the information to get out there more. If a person has no interest in science or never likes or watches anything involving science. It is hard for them to find these pages. Overall, while Facebook is not the most trustworthy site it is a site that allows interesting information to get to readers in a fast efficient way, which stretches the reach of science on a daily basis.
