I'm Scared To Speak Out About The Presidential Candidates

People are getting beat up at rallies and "peaceful protests" are nowhere to be seen.

I'm Scared To Speak Out About The Presidential Candidates

You'd have to be living under a rock to not notice and hear about the up and coming presidential elections. What is making this the most notorious election is the amount of violence that has been involved in regards to the rallies. "Peaceful protests" seem almost non-existent with supporters of both parties taking part in the violence. This is creating another issue that doesn't need to exist.

It is creating a group of people who are afraid to voice what party they identify with. To be completely honest, I feel the need to tread lightly when I talk about where I stand politically because of all of the hostility surrounding the elections. The news is littered with physical fights that are breaking out because of the opposing views. I'm not saying that this has never happened in the history of American politics, but, as a millennial, this has been one of the most violent presidential campaigns in recent years. There are aggressors on both ends of the spectrum, from protestors shutting down a Trump rally to the supporters becoming physically aggressive with whoever doesn't agree with them.

Honestly, this is simply ridiculous. We are a generation that could make huge changes in the way society works. We have the capability to turn everything around and create better lives for ourselves and up-coming generations. There is so much history giving us examples of what happens when people are overly aggressive and when they make enemies out of their neighbors and friends. What ends up happening is the absolute opposite of resolve. You end up with a lot of hurt people and the problem growing even bigger. The only way that we can make the change that needs to happen is if we keep talking.

We need to keep talking to each other. Once we stop doing that, that is when the ideas and innovations stop. That's when we stop being able to help each other and being able to find new ways to move forward. At the rate that we are going, there is no good environment to keep the conversation going. Right now, the only people who are talking are hurting the others around them. This ends up silencing the majority and possibly silencing the person or people who could get us on the path to a better life.

Right now, we need to take a step back and evaluate ourselves. Yes, this has not been the ideal presidential campaign. Everyone has strong opinions that seem to be making them doing some crazy things, but we shouldn't feel like our safety is on the line by only trying to keep the conversation open. No matter if you are a Democrat, a Republican, or an Independent, we need to all keep talking without jumping straight to hostility.

Even though the same respect and decorum hasn't been shown with a few of the candidates, it doesn't mean that we need to stoop to that level.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
