Sharing My Opinions Scare Me And That Is A Problem

This is who I am, and this is what I believe.

We live in a very opinionated society, which is not necessarily a problem, but it is a problem when people are made uncomfortable to even share their opinion because of the backlash they will receive. I am one of those people. There are many conversations I never feel comfortable speaking up in because I don't want people who are supposed to be my friends to look at me differently. We are living in a society where people who do not share the same views as us are ostracized from each other because we do not want to ‘deal' with our differences.

Many times I have been on Twitter and seen people, who I consider great friends, tweet that they can't be friends with someone who believes something different than them. This breaks my heart a little each time, because what if they find out that I believe in something different than them? Would they really stop being friends with me? Or would they do the adult thing and accept me for who I am, no matter my beliefs?

The fact that I even worry about things like this today is horrible. I shouldn't have to worry about losing friends for believing in something different than them. I shouldn't have to worry about being looked at differently for what I believe in. I shouldn't have to be afraid to be me.

With all of that being said I think it's time I share some of these opinions I have been holding back because it is time to stop being afraid. If we want things to change we need to have adult conversations about our differences and stop acting like the problem is going to go away if we just ignore it.

1. I support President Donald J. Trump.

Yes, I support President Trump. Am I happy with the way he shares all of his opinions? No, I do think he could change how he puts himself out there, but I am also very happy that we have a president who is not afraid to speak his mind no matter how vulgar it may seem to other people. I am happy to have someone who has stuck to the promises he made in his campaign. I am also happy to have someone who puts America above everything else. He is dedicated to improving our country to make it the best it can be. He has done great things for his first year as president and I can't wait to see what else he accomplishes throughout the rest of his time.

2. I am NOT a feminist.

Yes, I am a woman, and I am by no definition a feminist. I don't think that just because I am a woman I should automatically be considered equal to a man. First of all, men and women are genetically different in many ways, that's just how the body works. There are many men that are stronger than me, and there are many men that I am much stronger than, but in no way am I offended that a man can do something better than I can.

My biggest issue with this wave of feminism is that these women want to be respected, but marching around with a vagina on your head is not going to have people look at you with respect. And that these women think that they deserve everything in the whole world, just because they are a woman. Well here's the thing, most women suck. They want what is best for them, with little regard to others. I am not just talking about women who are feminists but all women. We are not nice, and a lot of women don't work nearly hard as a man does yet expect to be treated exactly the same as a man. Not everything is worth the fight, if feminists continue to fight the little things, what's going to happen when something major happens that actually deserves the fight? No one is going to listen because they are going to think it's just another little thing that they will stop fighting when the next slightest inconvenience happens to some woman.

3. I love Thomas Jefferson.

Yes, Thomas Jefferson founded my university, so it may seem kind of silly that I had to include this in here, but here's the thing, there are many people at UVA who do not like Thomas Jefferson at all, and that is their opinion so that is perfectly okay. I just don't understand why people would want to put themselves somewhere, where literally EVERYTHING has something to do with TJ. This point also goes along with the removal of historical statues that people are fighting oh so hard to get taken down.

The problem with this is that if we take down all of these statues that are from a dark time in our history we are acting like it never happened. And what about future generations who will never see these statues and never fully know the history of the United States? History repeats itself, is what happens. We cannot go on acting like these big moments in our country's history did not happen, because that defeats the whole purpose. As a society, we need to be reminded every day of the pain we caused to so many people and pray that it never happens again. We have to acknowledge what we did wrong in the past and grow and never ever let it happen again.

There it is. Those are my opinions on some of the controversial topics of today. I hope with every fiber of my being that people don't see me differently for any of these opinions because that's all it is, an opinion. One that may be the same or different than others, but it is nothing to get upset over. If everyone just stopped letting their feelings get hurt about every little thing that happens, then I believe society would be in a much better place that it is today.

I am sorry if any of my ‘friends' look at me differently now because of this, but this is who I am, and this is what I believe.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
