The show that has been sweeping America since April 5th, 2012 may actually have some real meaning behind it. Shonda Rhimes, producer of Grey's Anatomy, Private Practice, and now Scandal has mad an incredible impact on the recent generation of television. Her shows have taken Netflix nights to a whole new level. As I've been watching the show Scandal avidly, for the last two months, I've realized that nearly every character in Scandal mimics some political character in real life. So here are the Scandal characters true identities.
1. Fitzgerald Grant - Bill Clinton
Throughout the entirety of all five season of Scandal we see Fitzgerald Grant fall deeply in love with a woman who is not his wife. This all just sounds like a more fabricated version of Monica Lewinksy in my opinion. Another reason I find Fitzgerald Grant to be a representation of Bill Clinton is that Fitzgerald Grant has a tendency to not align with his party. In the show we see him pass a bill called the Brandon Bill that doesn't align with original conservative ideologies. Throughout the course of President Clinton's presidency there is a similar pattern as well.
2. Mellie Grant - Hillary Clinton
No one is more power hungry than a woman who has been cheated on and had to watch her husband get away with it. Now running for office, both Hillary and Mellie Grant have a vendetta to push. Throughout the show we see Mellie push and pry and cheat her way through the Presidential election, and I guess that's why her and Hillary fit so perfectly together.
3. Susan Ross - John Kasich
Oh Susan Ross, throughout the show she is so incredibly naive to all the White House politics. She stands true to herself and refuses to compete in dirty politics or make any move that may spite her adorable daughter Casey. We see similar attributes in former GOP Republican nominee John Kasich, as he holds family values high and resisted to partake in Washington politics.
4. Edison Smith - Barack Obama
Both of these young, ambitious individuals both serve a purpose in trying to racially unite the country by becoming the first African American Presidents. Sadly, for them, their political ideologies aren't always the best thought out. Like Obama, Edison Smith was a push over for Mr. Pope and therefore, like the Obama administration, we watch Edison Smith tumble.
5. Frankie Vargas - Bernie Sanders
They both run on the same platform - Free College. How does that work? I'm not exactly sure, but despite my dis-agreeance with their political ideologies, the common denominator between Frankie Vargas and Bernie Sanders is that they're both running for President for the right reason. They both love the country and they run on a platform that although it doesn't necessarily work as well as they believe, they are running on beliefs they think will better the country.
6. Hollis Doyle - Donald Trump
Well Shonda Rhimes you've done a good job hiding some of the personas, whether it be switching their genders or political party affiliation, but this one you just can't hide. Blunt, white, successful, males with weird hair and a ton of insane followers. I mean we always knew money could buy an election didn't we?
