Body Positivity Is Great And All, But Let's Talk About Health

Loving yourself is key, but you're not loving yourself if you aren't staying healthy.

Let me start by saying this: I am in no way bashing body shapes.

I embrace all type of body shapes, and I am a firm believer that God made all of us unique and beautiful. Look at me: I'm no size 2, and I could definitely step on the treadmill and toss the Cheetos from my food bin.

Okay, so cutting to the chase- we need to throw out the "body positivity movement".

Hear me out when I say this, every body is beautiful in their own way, and diversity is truly beautiful. However, what isn't beautiful is allowing society to think that both being over-weight and under-weight is something to idolize. And I understand what the "body positivity" trend stands for, and how it is a platform for acceptance and giving the idea of "loving yourself for who you are, no matter your physique".

Being unhealthy is not beautiful or inspirational, and it is definitely not loving yourself.

Both obesity and malnutrition from anorexia is at an all-time high, as it is all because society has tricked our minds into thinking beauty has one certain standard, and if you don't have it, you need to find a way to attain it. I get that, and I understand that part of the body-posi trend, however, that isn't a healthy way to look at it.

My boyfriend's mom tells me frequently that healthily maintaining both mental and physical health is how you gain self-confidence. You truly need to appreciate your body in order to allow it to run smoothly. Which means eating the beneficial-nutrient heavy foods, exercising in some form everyday, and removing toxic things and people from your life. Your body is like a car- no matter how pretty or satisfied you are with the outside, you still need to keep it maintained, or else it won't run right.

So please, let's all ditch this trend, because it isn't even accurate. Body positivity is being positive about your health, and keeping positive as you strive to make you the healthy person you need to be. Go to the doctor regularly, eat good foods, workout a couple times per week, do what is going to make you feel good on the inside.

Stop thinking about society and it's views and platforms; do what you need to do to make you healthy inside and out, because newsflash: body positivity could end up harming you more than benefit you in the end.

an image of taylor swift standing center stage surrounded by her backup dancers in elegant peacock esque outfits with a backdrop of clouds and a box rising above the stage the image captures the vibrant aesthetics and energy of her performance during the lover era of her eras tour

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
