14 Ways To Spread The Love On Valentine's Day

“Hi, my name is Single on Valentine’s Day and I’m addicted to moping around and being angry at couples for shoving their happiness in my face.”

Hey there, Single on Valentine’s Day, nice to meet you! See, you’re not alone. Millions of people out there suffer from the same feelings you get when they are also alone on the holiday of love.

People that are lacking a significant other typically don’t feel so darn bad about themselves on the rest of the 364 days a year, in fact, it seems that they’re normally perfectly fine! It is purely those 24 hours that feel especially egregious to singles everywhere. On this day alone they feel emotions like dread, bitterness, anger, isolation, sadness, or my personal favorite, “I’m-going-to-be-alone-foreverrrrr!”

If you identified with our friend Single on Valentine’s Day or have recalled feeling one of the emotions above, sadly I am not here to tell you there is a support group for you or our friend Single, but rather I’ve come up with 14 ways you can spread the love on Valentine’s Day - even if you’re single.

1. Write a note to a friend telling you how much you appreciate and love them - it doesn’t have to be long, but they will feel wonderful receiving it.

2. Call your grandparents.

3. Send your mom flowers.

4. Text your dad something that’ll make him laugh.

5. Bake your roommates something sweet.

6. Go to dinner with an old friend and catch up.

7. Bring your favorite professor a coffee.

8. Compliment a stranger walking past you. You never know, they could be feeling particularly lonely today, too.

9. If you’re in an organization, let your people know you appreciate the hard work they do.

10. Volunteer somewhere - giving back will make your time worthwhile.

11. Get your boss a card to let them know you care.

Most importantly, don’t forget about self-love…

12. Buy yourself some flowers, cookies, candles, whatever.

13. Listen to your favorite guilty pleasure song, watch the funny movie - or the one that makes you cry, or just take a nap.

14. Allow yourself to see all of the love that surrounds you, even if it isn’t romantic love, and let yourself indulge in feeling good because of that.

Being that person - Single on Valentine’s Day - can be hard but it doesn’t have to be. Spread love and you’ll receive love in return. And for the love of all things holy - don’t text your ex.

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
