On October 23 Adele released the new teaser song titled “Hello” from her upcoming album "25." The fresh song was awarded the number one spot as it topped the singles charts in the UK. In addition, “Hello” sold 4.75 million copies in the UK alone, making it the country's fourth best-selling album of all time.
Adele described her new song as intimate. “Hello” serves as a lament about her ex-boyfriend. The pain and suffering in her powerful voice is prominent throughout the piece. She belts out the chorus in the higher part of her voice, which truly stands out due to its rarity for this alto-singer. “Hello” serves as an outlet, and sense of closure for Adele. Throughout the duration of the song she speaks of her endless unanswered phone calls. She is filled with regret and apologies. “Hello” seems like somewhat of a diary entry, she vents and follows up with the line, “It’s so typical of me to talk about myself, I’m sorry.” You can sense the pent-up regret and sadness Adele feels, as well as a range of lingering emotions regarding her ex-boyfriend.
Since her hit album "21" this British Idol has taken a three-year break, “Getting into the headspace was really difficult - obviously now I'm a parent, and having such a break off, I kind of fell out of the habit of writing songs.” Adele’s last single was the Oscar-winning Bond song "Skyfall" in 2012. Her last album, "21," was released a year earlier and went on to become the biggest-selling records of our generation. Adele spoke of her concern in regards to people comparing her new album with her previous hit album "21." “But also I feel like every album I'm ever going to write is always going to be following 21. Even no matter what this album does, my next record's going to be following 21.” Adele’s concern is not unwarranted, as her album "21" was one of the best sellers and most popular of the 21st century.
Adele is quiet possibly one of the strongest voices of our generation. She stands in a league of her own. Adele shines above other mediocre pop stars that rely on fancy outfits, auto tune, and gimmicky dances. Adele is an alpha. Her voice could make even the most stone-faced person cry and smile. If Adele’s music were a friend, it would be the friend you would call when you are overwhelmed and need to talk things out. Her music speaks volumes to a diverse audience. What makes Adele’s music different is that it isn’t tailored for a specific age, race, or gender. Adele’s music relates to all people across the board. It touches on broader issues such as break ups, make-ups, as well as other valuable life experiences.
Most people will agree that this “Hello” is sweet, and her fans are so glad to see Adele back in action. Adele’s new album will include other artists such as Britney Spears, Taylor Swift and U2 to name a few. If the nostalgic song “Hello” is any indication of her upcoming album, then Adele will surely top the charts worldwide. Adele’s new album "25" will be released in the U.S. on November 20, 2015.
