It’s the strangest feeling to think that I am almost done with my freshman year of college. How did the time go by so quickly?
I remember move in day so well. I got to campus in the ridiculously hot weather with my mom and a car full of dorm room necessities. We spent the day putting everything together, hanging all of my pictures, and putting all of my clothes in my dresser and closet. After everything seemed like it was in its place, it was time for the beginning of sorority recruitment. That was a week I will never forget. It was about one hundred degrees outside every day, there were hundreds of girls in matching outfits, and 12 houses to get through, to hopefully find your home by the end. Thankfully I did find my home at my chapter, and I also found my best friends.
Next was the first day of college classes. The night before I had all of my supplies ready, an outfit picked out, and a nervousness to start this new chapter in my life. Once I got to my classes (after getting a little lost) I made sure to write everything down, I highlighted every important date, and tried introducing myself to all of my professors. Since then the rest of freshman year has gone by in the blink of an eye. It seems like just a month ago that I was cheering for our team at a football game, and a week ago I was on spring break with my friends.
The end of the year is only two weeks away and I have had so many things running through my mind. It will be so strange to take down all the new pictures from my walls, to pack away my blankets that I spent nights watching Netflix in, and to say goodbye to the room that I called home for eight months. I’m not looking forward to the final exams, or putting all of my clothes somehow into four suitcases, but mostly I’m not looking forward to the goodbyes that come with leaving. My freshman year has surpassed all of my expectations that I had coming in. I am now involved in multiple organizations on campus, I am a part of a sisterhood that I love, and I have friendships that I know will last forever.
So, with the few days I have left as a college freshman I would just like to say thank you to my school for the opportunity to experience new situations and new people, thank you to the professors that have already taught me what it’s like to grow up and take responsibility, and to the people that have made my first year here amazing. I can’t wait to get back here in the fall and continue the memories that all started in my freshman year.
