Here are some tips on how to be kind to the nature when you move into the college dorms:
1. Use plastic containers when you move.
You can also use them as storage under your bed and in your closet during the school year. If you use paper boxes when moving, please do not throw them away in recycling, but save then in your room or in the dorms storage for when your are going to move back out again.
2. Do not bring clothes you do not need or use often.
It will save you a lot of space. If you do bring too many clothes, go through them and figure out what you do not need. Do not throw them away, but save them and encourage your RA to host a clothing swap.
3. If you have a coffee maker, buy a reusable filter.
I have one myself made out of hemp and they are very easy to use, and think about all the trees you will save.
4. Go thrifting!
If you need things for your first time moving away from home please visit a thrift store instead of going to for example target to buy everything new. It will save you money, and it will save the nature.
5. Buy a reusable water bottle.
Water is all you need to drink, and your college should have water dispensers around on campus. You’ll save at least a couple of hundreds plastic bottles!
