We all wait for those glorious weekends where we can turn off our alarms, sleep past the-would-be 8:35 a.m. classes and indulge in a late brunch. It is comforting to know that our lives are not dictated by routine on the weekends and there are times when classes and work are not always on the forefront of our minds.
That being said, some of us like to use Saturday nights as an incentive to get our work done. Going out on Saturdays- whether it be to a nice dinner in town or to a party- is a way for us to get off the sometimes-stifling atmosphere of campus. It’s also a great way to blow off some steam and forget about the ever growing to do list we have at the back of our minds. Saturday nights have become a sort of culture for us college students. Even a ritual, as far as getting ready to go out goes.
For my friends and I, we have a process that we go through every Saturday, which includes these 9 stages:
1. Trying to figure out if 'fam' is up for anything tonight
2. Deciding what to do tonight
3. Wondering what to take with you
4. Wondering what you should even wear while everyone around you has their outfits planned.
5. Finding the bus to take into town/off campus
6. Having that one friend that has been too busy listening to music to get ready until 10 minutes before the bus
7. Grabbing extra drinks
8. Shoving jackets at each other
9. Making the bus with 30 seconds to spare and regretting every decisions you made earlier on.
In the end, we go out, have fun and [hopefully] all make it back together, making promises that next weekend won’t be the same. But it is called Saturday night culture for a reason...
