San Diego is not nicknamed “America’s Finest City” for nothing. Don’t believe me? Read on to discover just a few of the greatest parts of good ol’ San Diego.
1. The history and tourism.
The history of San Diego is what makes it so special for residents and visitors alike. There is much to learn and explore within the city! Even locals can enjoy taking a day to be tourists and seeing all this astounding city has to offer -- Balboa Park (including our incredible zoo), Downtown, Old Town, etc. San Diego oozes with culture and diversity!
2. Petco Park
Though the Padres have never raked in a World Series victory, and have only made it close twice since the team was founded in 1969, many San Diego natives stay loyal to the beloved team. Petco Park, in my opinion, is one of the most beautiful ball parks in the nation. Right in the heart of Downtown San Diego, this incredibly designed structure provides fans with an amazing view of the San Diego Bay and the skyline. Win or lose, experiencing a Padres game is a must for residents, and especially tourists!
3. The Beaches
San Diego is a city commonly known for it’s beautiful beaches. From Pacific Beach to La Jolla to Mission Beach to Coronado, both locals and visitors admire the beauty and close proximity of these coastal wonders and their surrounding beach towns.

4. The Mountains
One thing that is very special about San Diego is the nearness to both the beaches and the mountains. On a standard winter day, a San Diegan could go surfing in 70 degree weather, and then hop on an eastward-bound freeway to end up in the mountains for some snow and sledding. Estimated travel time? About an hour.
5. The Food Scene
Because of the immense diversity in this heavily populated city, San Diego has one of the best food scenes in the nation. Any type of cuisine you could possibly crave can be found in San Diego; whether it be Thai, Mediterranean or Brazilian. There’s always somewhere new to try!
6. Especially The Mexican Food
San Diego is home to some of the best Mexican food the United States has to offer. No other city can compare, and all "San Diegans" are sure to let everyone from other parts of the country know. One thing I miss most about leaving for college? Authentic California burritos.
7. The Coffee And Beer Scene
Along with food, coffee and craft brew are very important to San Diegans. There is always a new coffee roaster or local brewery popping up in hip, developing neighborhoods and like the food scene, there is always somewhere new to explore!
8. The Weather
And finally, the most outstanding part of San Diego: the perfect weather. Any day that is not 70 degrees and sunny is a rarity. San Diegans are extremely spoiled with weather and often find themselves complaining when anything but mild weather occurs. I suppose you could say us natives are fairly spoiled.
I personally never realized how special of a place San Diego is until I moved away last year. Those who are raised there may find themselves going to a different city or state for college, but somehow, they almost always come running on home.
