My Rush Crush And I: A Real-Life Love/Obsession Story

Hey, whether you admit it or not, we've all experienced these feelings a time or two.

My Rush Crush And I: A Real-Life Love/Obsession Story

Well hey hey everyone! This week I decided to write about an issue that may be sensitive to a number of you and that is...having a rush crush. Wow, right? It's perfectly natural to have these feelings, don't be ashamed! And whether we admit it or not, every sorority girl has experienced the excitement, butterflies, and straight-up territorial behavior that comes along with having a rush crush.

It all begins and ends within a matter of minutes. Do not be alarmed if you find yourself wondering if this is what love at first sight feels like--because it most likely is. It all starts when you first sit down with this young, bright-eyed, and bushy-tailed Potential New Member. You begin to believe that maybe this could be her! This could be the one you have been waiting for. You skip over all the surface level conversation and begin to dig a little deeper, you know, to the conversation that really matters. For example, "If you were a food, what food would you be?" Really deep stuff--tears could be involved.

Alright, ladies. It's official. You have a RUSH CRUSH. You might as well change your FaceBook relationship status right this second because you are no longer alone! Around this time, feelings of obsession may occur. You begin to look for her at every social. If she's talking to one of your sisters (or anyone who isn't you) you become overwhelmed with feelings that can only be described as Edward Cullen's obsessive protectiveness over Bella--this is natural right?

So by now you are official--at least in your mind. You start to take things into your own hands a.k.a. obsessively texting all of your sisters about this magical specimen of a human that you are smitten with and proactively keeping yourself updated with her social media accounts. It's not stalking, until you accidentally like one of her Instagrams from two months ago. She won't notice, right? Smooth move.

BUT WAIT! You didn't ruin possibly the best relationship your life has yet to see! Not only do you get to see her again but you also get to pick her up at the door and hopefully convince her to stay with you and your sisters forever and ever...and ever. But then you get a little nervous. "Wow, do I go hug her? Would the freak her out?" Basically, in a nutshell...

Okay, okay don't pass out. The bid list is coming and you are about to get the biggest news of your whole entire LIFE! What if you just totally creeped this girl out during recruitment? What if she didn't feel the same way that you do? EMOTIONS ARE RUNNING WILD RIGHT NOW PEOPLE. Hey, but wait. Did they just say her name? They did, right? You didn't just make this up in your head. ALL of your wildest dreams are coming true!

Wow could life be any better right now? Nope, probably not. HAH and then she finally runs into your open arms and you just know that all the craziness of work week, exhaustion from recruitment, and the emotional rollercoaster you just went through was totally worth it to welcome this little babe home.

Too much? Nah.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
