Running with Open Arms | The Odyssey Online

Writing from my soul is something that has always come naturally. Lately, however, I feel like I have lost touch with reality, thus, lost touch with my writing. I have been fading in and out as my heart beats and my eyes blink. It has all been a blur. I have been seeking fulfillment of myself in others when really, I need more of God. So here I am, Lord, I am running to you with open arms from now on. I will stop avoiding you because I know that you are my everything. In this upcoming semester I am going to turn to you. I was driving down the interstate earlier tonight when my eyes filled with tears and everything started flooding back to me. I was listening to "Forgiven" by Sanctus Real. If you have not heard this song, it is one you must listen to. I don't mean listen to it and let it go in one ear and out the other; but instead, really listen to the lyrics. One line states, "And I don't have to carry the weight of who I am because I'm forgiven." This was when it hit me. The past is called "the past" for a reason. It is simply in the past. Because of this, we do not have to carry the weight of the mistakes we have made on our shoulders, we can let it go. And if you do choose to someday look back, you should look back on the progress you have made and not linger upon the mistakes. You should look back and become overjoyed at the realization that you didn't give up when you thought that giving up was your only option. 2016 was a rough year for me but I have faith in God that 2017 is going to be my year, as all of yours. "Satan may roar, but my defender is the Lion of Judah and he will fight for ME, I need only be still." Exodus 14:14. Let your faith take over in 2017. Whether it be your faith in God, or simply the universe, let it shine through like the sun peeking through the clouds on a brisk winter day.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
