Only God knows how some college students are able to get through the stress of finals week. I am a freshman at Nazareth College and it is about to be the end of my first year of college and I am holding on by the thinnest thread you can possibly think of. This semester, since I brought in so many credits from an early college high school and advanced placement course, I have had the luxury of taking all upper-level courses and having final exams and tests to reflect what I learned. Let me tell you the beautiful list of things that I have to complete before I jump for joy on May 2.
- A 7-10 page paper for my Crime and Deviance in Latin America course
- A reflection for my Western Civilization course
- A short paper for my Ethics course
- An oral argument for my Legal Writing and Research Course
- My last predictive memo for my Legal Writing and Research course
But let’s not forget my favorite part. I have three final exams as well.
Although none of this is my favorite part of being a college student, I am telling you I am very proud of myself for doing it. If you happen to be a college student and are reading this, let me start by applauding you because you, my fine fellow, have been through so much but just remember the light at the end of the tunnel. You are getting through it and all the times you got dressed in ten minutes for class is going to pay off.
If you are a college graduate and reading this, I also applaud you because you have completed such a great accomplishment and I hope that all that hard work is paying off. I do apologize greatly for the loans that you may be paying off though (Sorry just a little college humor).
One thing that has continued to motivate me is the thought of walking across that stage and receiving the empty diploma frame to wait patiently for it to arrive in the mail. Also, the thought of all the helium balloons and flowers that my family will bring me and all the people that I don’t even know who will pass by and feel obligated to say congratulations.
If you are feeling stressed out, although this may sound straight out of a brochure, find something that will make you feel happy and push you to feel motivated and determined to finish that load of assignments. Trust me there are people who are going through way worse in the world that just try to finish a 7-10 page paper and I am grateful for where I am in life and you should be too. Take a deep breath and think. There is nothing wrong with once in a while taking a study break to relieve some stress and then getting straight back to work. Always look for a place that you know you would be comfortable and get to it!
