An Open Letter To My Roommates

The first week of school has ended and as roommates, here are my thoughts on our first few days together.

An Open Letter To My Roommates
Taylor Fogarty

The first week of classes is officially over, and that means that we have all been together for at least a week. The four of us have so far gotten along very well and I can only hope that the year will continue in the same. In our first few days together, I have had so much fun with you guys, between our movie nights and the time we have spent hanging out talking about random stuff and laughing at our weirdness.

I can already tell you that this week has been one of the best opening weeks of school that I've had since going to college. The three of you are helping me to open up more by accepting me for who I am, strange quirks and all. Before moving into our dorm this year I was very nervous, because it can be hard to have one roommate, let alone three. I was scared that all of you would get along well, and I would be the odd one out. But I am so happy that you all have opened up to me and that we can all have fun together.

I can't even begin to tell you how excited I get when I walk through the door after class and work and you all greet me. It makes my day, because in the past couple of years, I haven't had many friends and would tend to get lonely. So every day when I come home, and the four of us gather and talk and make jokes, it makes me incredibly glad that I decided to remain in the dorms.

We may have only known each other for less than two weeks, but I want you all to know that I consider you friends. For the first time in a long while, I am actually happy and excited to be at school, because for once I no longer feel incredibly lonely. And for that, I thank each one of you. So thank you to the gymnast who loves Bath and Body Works and Pink. Thank you to the incredibly sweet and kind girl who's tongue jiggles when she laughs. Thank you to the weird rooster who cracks me up with every word she speaks. The three of you have made the beginning of my junior year one of the best so far. And finally, thank's to Carl, our pink polka-doted dinosaur who watches over us all.

Here's to the memories we have already made and to the many more that we will continue to make. Have a great school year!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
