My Roommates Are Better Than Yours

Living with people can be difficult, but it is easier when you adore the people you live with.

My Roommates Are Better Than Yours

Many college students look forward to the moment when they can finally move out of the dorms and into a house with their friends. This year, I moved into a house with a group of girls that I didn’t know extremely well, but they have become a huge part of making this year great.

I grew up with siblings, so I was no stranger to sharing a house with other people. Living with roommates, however, is an entirely different ballgame. And I love it. This old, red, creepy house wouldn’t be the same without my roomies.

This year, my roommates and I have already had countless situations that I’m sure will end up in my future “when I was in college” stories. From the laughter to the scares and even the tears, I am sure this house will be filled with memories by the end of the year.

I often hear friends talk about their roommate situations and I always realize how lucky I am to live with the girls I do. I love the fact our house is the way it is; it isn’t always conventional, but I wouldn’t want it any other way. We let the kitchen get ridiculously dirty, but we know eventually it will get cleaned. The couches are a designated napping area, and if you haven’t crashed there yet, you’re missing out. We joke about a house ghost, and it’s no wonder we do with our house being over 100 years old.

I could never have predicated how living with these girls would turn out. When we moved in we all had our concerns and worries about living with four other people. But I can safely say that nothing but good has come from living with these girls. Our house is a size where there is always someone home when you need it and space to chill when you don't. Seeing as I didn’t know these girls too well before we became roommates, living with them has allowed me to make four great new friends.

When I come home, whether it's just sitting in the quiet or something exciting happening, I love the occurrences that take place in our house with these girls. I love the cooking and the snacking, and the midnight dessert runs in pursuit of milkshakes. I love the constant boy talk that takes place here. I love the many hours we spend on the couches together, just hanging out. I love the laughter that always fills this house up. I love the fact that people are constantly over, and it is a place where really anyone is welcome.

These girls have been a huge part of making this year great. There is always someone around to share moments with. Moments like chasing squirrels off the front porch like a mad woman, to making snack runs in-between movies, to scaring the living daylight out of each other, and to the life chats on the back porch. There is always someone around to do life with, and that is just as it should be.

I love my roommates, I really do. This year wouldn’t be the same without them. So cheers to my roomies and our cute little red house. We have made it through half of this semester, and I am so excited for all that is still to come.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
