I don't know how you put up with being my roommate, but I'm so glad you did. We've gotten to be so close and I'm so thankful God placed you in my life. Here a list of what you are to me, what you've taught me, and how thankful I am for you in general. Warning: this may make you cry, so grab the nearest box of tissues and continue reading.
1. Keep your friends close and your enemy's closer.
Whoever said "keep your friends close and your enemy's closer" was an idiot! They obviously haven't met you! You taught me something that will help me navigate through future friendships and I'm thankful for that. It turns out you were right. All of the people I thought I would end up staying friends with, I didn't. All the girls I thought were "such great friends", simply weren't. All of the people you had "bad feelings" about in the first place, ended up not being so good for me in the end. You were right about all of it. Needless to say, thank you for sticking up for me when I let people walk all over me. Thank you for steering me in the right direction. Thank you for listening to my constant complaining about fighting with my so called "friends". In the end, you're a true blue friend to have and one I know I will ultimately keep.
2. You know all my deepest, darkest secrets.
You know all of my secrets, and still accept me and love me for who I am. I know that if I tell you something, you won't go off and tell someone else. I'm thankful I can confide in you and that you are so trustworthy. In this day and age, it's hard to find someone who won't "spill the beans" about the latest gossip in your life. Thank you for being someone who I can go to when I'm in a bad mood or when I simply just need someone to listen. Thank you for listening to me ramble on and on about how life isn't fair, and telling it to me straight the fact that life isn't supposed to be fair. I appreciate your honesty because I know it's out of a place of love for me.
3. You sometimes know me better than I know myself.
There were many, many, many times where I just felt lost and didn't know what to say in that moment. You somehow just knew. The thing is you just "get me." I don't know how you do it, but I appreciate it so much. I love how we could just share a look and you instantly just know what I'm saying. To this day when we're together we could look at one another and know what the other person is thinking whether it was something funny, or sarcastic, or whatever else, we just know. There were and are times where I will breakdown and don't know what's wrong with me. You'll sit there and tell me it's going to be okay and help me realize what was wrong to begin with. Needless to say, you know me better than I know myself.
4. You're the definition of my best friend.
I've never had a friend like you before. I've never had a friendship where we don't judge each other, even ever so slightly. With you, it's different. You're my best friend. I've known that since day one of our friendship. There was always just something about you that screamed "You need to be friends with this one!" and here we are. God has a funny way of bringing people together. I'm glad we both chose to go to the same school and just so happen to be in the same classes. Who knew that we of all people would end up becoming best friends. We are literally the same person and to most are probably super obnoxious and annoying. I love how we both have such a carefree attitude about other people's opinions and will be honest when the other person needs a reality check. You're one of the funniest, most kind-hearted people I know. You know how to accept people for who they are and have such a big heart. You accept me for who I am, flaws and all. I can't thank you enough for that.
5. You're my personal motivator.
There were so many times and probably will be many more where I've been working on homework or some extensive project and simply don't want to do it anymore. You're always the one to push me the extra mile and tell me to "suck it up and just do it." You're my personal motivator and one of the biggest "cheerleaders" in my life. You want what's truly best for me and will be completely honest when it comes to decisions I make or things that I say. You encourage me to be the best person that I can be and would pretty much do anything to save me from getting hurt. You're a rockstar for that love!
6. You always lend me your shoulder to cry on.
Well, I'll just say it: I'm a very emotional person. I cry easily and about anything and everything. I cry when I'm overwhelmed. I cry when I'm stressed or when I lose a friend. I cry when I'm sad and when I'm laughing too hard. I cry when someone disappoints me or when I disappoint someone else. I cry when I hurt someone's feelings or when they hurt mine. Long story short, I cry a lot. You've helped me realize that it's okay to cry. In fact, it's normal and healthy even. Thank you for always lending me your shoulder to cry on and for handing me tissue after tissue, and laughing at me because snot is coming out of my nose. Thank you for wiping my tears as they fall and for helping piece me back together, time and time again. Thank you for teaching me that it's okay not to be okay and that's it's okay to not have it all together all the time. Thank you for teaching me to be vulnerable and "real" with people. Thank you for all of the times that I vented to you about my problems and you would just sit there and listen to me, while giving me advice about what the heck I am supposed to do. Thank you for always having my back.
7. You give the best advice and you don't sugar coat it.
I swear, you should write a book or something because you honestly give the best advice. And it's not because you're honest or because you tell me what to do with my life. It's because you don't sugar coat it. You tell me how it is and that I simply need to accept it. You're a couple years older than me, and have experienced a little bit more of what life has to offer than I have. With that said you know a lot more about the "dos" and "don'ts" than I do. When you tell me not to do something, it's not because you want me to fail, or because you think you'll benefit in some way, but because you've been there. You've been in my shoes and ultimately know the end result. You're just trying to help guide me and I couldn't ask for anything more! You force me to be a better person, and I'm stronger now because of it. Thank you for all of the advice that you've given me and for telling me to "suck it up buttercup" because I'm slowly learning that this thing called life isn't easy. I now have full confidence that God truly does have something bigger, something better planned for my life. I just can't see it yet.
8. You're like my big sister.
I'm like the annoying younger sibling that irritates you and bugs you again and again until you pay attention to me, but at the end of the day, you're forced to love me anyways. You're overprotective of me and are constantly watching out for me. You fill me in on what I've been missing out on and warn me about certain people that you get "bad vibes" from. You always made sure I had my homework done and that I had eaten something for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. You always make sure that I'm okay emotionally, mentally, physically and spiritually even on the days that you're simply not. We sometimes disagree on things, but we lovingly fix whatever is going on, unlike real siblings where all they do is fight and get nowhere. We drive each other insane and yet if someone tries to cross the other person, we're the first to interfere. You were always one to look out for me and just truly care about me. I can't tell you enough how much I appreciate that! Thank you for not only being my best friend, but like a sister to me.
9. We're freaks and that's okay.
From singing songs from Disney movies at the top of our lungs (and as loudly and as obnoxiously as we can) to making up songs about how badly we have to pee, we're freaks and quite frankly, I'm okay with that. We know how to have fun and that being silly is okay! I love that nothing is ever boring with us! There's always something new or exciting happening! When we're together we're like Tweddledee and Tweedledum, Dumb and Dumber, Tom and Jerry (minus the desperate need to chase each other and hit each other with over the head with a giant hammer) — basically we're just plain stupid! But we fully embrace it and I appreciate that about you so much! You help bring out the kid in me and have taught me that it's okay to have a little fun every once in awhile.
10. You accept my sass and give it right back.
If there's anything we're good at, it's being sassy! We know how to deal with each other's sass because we give it right back! We're sarcastic one moment and serious in the next. We can say something and the other person automatically knows that it's a joke. I love that we have that kind of relationship. It makes life fun!
11. We have too many inside jokes to count.
Since day one, we've shared jokes back and forth that it became an everyday occurrence. Apparently, our lives are free entertainment to the world. You're welcome, world! In a days work, we would somehow manage to wake up, forget about something important, throw on clothes, shove a granola bar in our mouths and call it breakfast, put on our shoes, yell goodbye to one another, somehow make it through class, and then make fun of each other for wearing something that doesn't match or for the fact that we don't have time for a social life because we have homework to do. In the midst of all of that, we came up with so many inside jokes. I'm thankful for all of those memories and for the ones to come! Thank you for always putting a smile on my face.
12. "Match maker, match maker make me a match."
I find it funny how my relationship came about. Thinking back on it, if we were never friends, chances are I would have never met my boyfriend. The thing is I wasn't planning on meeting someone. I wasn't looking for anyone, and when you introduced us to one another, I just had this feeling. I didn't know quite what it was until later on, but needless to say you played match maker quite well. Almost a year later and we're still going strong all thanks to you. Obviously I'm thankful for this one!
13. I look up to you.
On a more serious note, you're one of the very few people that I look up to. I admire the way that you're constantly chasing after God and the courage you have just to step out in faith and trust in His plan for your life. I admire the way you admit that you're not perfect and don't strive to be. I admire the way you are overly organized and constantly are making lists of things you have to do, and accomplish them. I admire how you aren't afraid of what may come, but fully embrace what life has to offer you. I admire the way you consider other people's perspectives and sides to things before jumping to conclusions. I admire the way you ask for help when you need it. I admire how you work so well with kids and have such a heart for it. I admire the way that you don't follow your heart like everyone else around you, but rather you follow God. I look up to you for many reasons and this is simply just a few.
14. I miss you, but I'm only one phone call away.
Let's face it. I miss you. I. miss. you. I mean I cried when I first left you and whenever I get the chance to see you, I almost tackle you to the ground. It doesn't matter if I just saw you five minutes ago versus five months ago. Regardless of the time spent apart, I always am greeted by a great, big hug! I miss being your roommate and hate the fact that I don't see you every day, but I know that God has something big planned. I'm just glad that He kept you as a part of it. We may not be "roommates" anymore, but you'll always be considered my roomie. Here's to many late night phone calls because our lives are falling apart, or just because. Here's to planning "roomie dates" simply because we miss the other person. Here's to many days of coffee, homework, and tears. Here's to keeping each other in check and for chasing after God. Here's to many more years of laughter, smiles, jokes, tears, and memories. I love you! Thank you for everything you've done for me.
