Rome At A Glance

Ciao, America!

Rome At A Glance

So I’m currently in Rome, Italy, and let me tell you... it’s freaking amazing here. Like gorgeous x 10^infinity. There’s something about being in Europe or a foreign place that really calms the soul.

From the little cafés and beautiful parks and gardens to all the historically rich architecture, these cities offer so much, and it would be dumb not to take advantage of it all.

Here are some things you can do in Rome, Italy:

Walk around and explore the sights. Be sure to always carry a map so as not to get lost. The big tourist attractions are: The Coliseum, Trevi Fountain, Vatican City & the Vatican Museums (& seeing Pope Francis if you’re lucky!), The Pantheon, Roman Forum, and St. Peter’s Basilica (in the Vatican).

However, in between and betwixt all the tourist stuff, you should try some local activities such as attending a flea market. There are several flea markets in Rome, but the largest is the Porto Portese Flea Market, held every Sunday morning. You should venture there if you have time, because it is quite the experience- huge white tents spread out as far as the eye can see and the hustle and bustle of getting a good deal. You never know what you might find, so it’s definitely worth the trip.

Another fun aspect of Rome is the nightlife. Rome might just be able to steal the title of “The City that Never Sleeps” from New York, because this city sure knows how to rage. There are many fun bars and nightclubs in the main area of Rome, and the streets are packed at night.

The best aspect by far is the food. You should make it a goal to see how many restaurants you can experience while you’re abroad, because each one has something different and all of the food is so incredible.

As Julia Roberts said in Eat Pray Love, So this is what I’m going to do, I’m going to finish this pizza and then we’re going to go watch the soccer game and tomorrow we’re going to go on a little date and buy ourselves some bigger jeans.”

Amen, sistah friend.

If you can’t find something poignant to see in Rome (then you’re not doing it right), but there is still another way to occupy your time, and that is retail therapy. Rome has fun little shops spread out all over the city, but the best spots are as follows:

1. Via del Corso is a street in Rome’s historic district and contains a mixed bag of well-known stores, such as H&M, as well as smaller designer boutiques.

2. Via Condotti and the Spanish Steps lie at the heart of Rome’s shopping district. This is where you can find the designer brands such as Prada, Gucci, etc.

I’ve only been in Rome for a day or two and that is what I’ve come up with so far. I’m sure the list will grow tremendously by the end of the month, but until then…

Ciao for now!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
