Honestly, it has gotten to the point where the Kardashians can do literally anything and I won’t be surprised. Kendall could be a robot, Kris could be a secret cat lady, and Khloe might not even be a real Kardashian. But one thing that has surprised me lately has been the amount of hype that they have been getting.
Sure, they are entrepreneurs and reality stars who have been revolutionizing the world of fashion and makeup, however, they have single-handedly raised the amount of inquiries about lip injections by 700 percent and butt enhancements by 54 percent. All inquiries attributed their inspiration from Kim’s butt or Kylie’s lips and so on. I think that there has been so much work done in making girls feel at home in their natural bodies that it would just be demoralizing to continue in this downward trend of building up the very people who challenge this social reform. So, I have compiled a list of some ladies who have honestly tried to change the world in a much healthier manner.
Emma Watson
I honestly am clueless for where to start with this glamorous, yet simplistic young lady that has dominated the fashion, film, and humanitarian worlds. Emma Watson debuted her glorious presence to this world as an actress and then became so much more. Best known for her first series of work in the "Harry Potter" film empire, she broke out into the film industry, earning critical acclaim for her role. She completed a degree in English literature at Brown University all the while filming five major motion pictures. She has done countless humanitarian work in Bangladesh and Zamibia to promote education for girls. Also, she is a UN Goodwill ambassador and has launched the HeForShe campaign, which has changed how people are fighting for gender equality.
What makes her so inspiring in the end is that she herself is so humble about her whole situation. She has opened up recently about struggling with low self-esteem. Sometimes the mind can be the worst enemy that one has. She has persevered through an incredibly unique childhood and does not have any scandals that have defeated the reputation of many childhood actors. This is why I have the most insane woman crush on Emma Watson.
Malala Yousafzi
Malala Yousafzi has been through more life-altering events in her 18 years than most people go through in a lifetime. She is also one of the most underrated young adults ever.
Hailing from Pakistan, the teenager fought alongside her father for education for women, amidst hundreds of death threats. The worst came when she was shot in the head and had to be airlifted to England for care. She miraculously survived and has used this experience to fight even harder for education for all. She attends school in England, every day wishing that she could return home, even though it is the most dangerous place for her in the whole world. She has truly earned her Nobel Peace Prize (2014).
I think one thing that inspires me is when I watch her interviews I see a young girl of my generation. She is a normal girl who has the same worries and fears as many others, however, she stepped up and fought for what she believed in under pain of death. And that is truly amazing.
Misty Copeland
Misty Copeland started ballet at the age of 13, which, when compared to many other professional ballerinas, who start at the age of three or four, is practically at the prodigy level. She is the first African-American ever to be promoted to principal dancer of the American Ballet Theater, one of the most prestigious ballet companies in the world. She was told from a young age that she did not fit the mold of the traditional ballerina. She started too late and she did not look the part of a traditional ballerina.
So Misty just made a new mold. She started her training during a very volatile part of her life when her mother was fighting for parental custody of her and was living in a different motel every week. However, she stuck to what she was passionate about and defeated any shred of doubt. Plus, she is sponsored by Under Armour.
So, basically, I have given you three ladies who have defied crazy odds and become so successful in their lives. They have done so without cosmetically changing their body or publishing a sex tape. They have inspired so much radical change socially that I believe that together, we must raise the pedestal on which they stand. Together, we can do it. We can say yes to having good role models.
