I've always been interested in politics, and this year for the first time ever, I get to participate in the political process by voting. In order to better understand the perspectives of the potential presidential candidates, I watched the Republican National Convention unfold on television. Despite the chaos and demagoguery used to promote Trump and tear down Hillary Clinton, I couldn't help but notice that speeches are hard to write and even harder to give. At the end of the convention, the five speeches that I found to be the most memorable are as follows:
- Patricia Smith’s Speech -- Given by the mother of a US Foreign Services agent who was killed in Benghazi, her speech repeatedly attacked Hillary Clinton's character and morals saying that she was unfit to be President because of her flawed judgement. In short:
- Melania Trump’s Speech -- In a surprise appearance, Melania Trump spoke publicly for the first time ever on Monday night. While the speech was very well written, it wasn't written by her. - Ben Carson’s Speech - -Comparing the person you're endorsing to a child molester and then complimenting them might just be the oddest way to show your support. In short:
- Ted Cruz’s Speech -- Ted Cruz made it very clear that he was not going to be endorsing Donald Trump due to some very insulting statement made toward Cruz's wife and father by Trump. In short:
- Chris Christie's Speech -- Christie rallied and riled up the Republican party by uniting the members against their common enemy: Hilary Clinton. However, he did so but pointing out all her faults and by attacking her character. In short:
