On June 10, young artist Christina Grimmie was tragically killed by a gunman after one of her shows at a Meet and Greet, signing autographs. She was shot in front of fans and her brother and was immediately rushed to the hospital. She sadly passed away from her injuries shortly after being brought to the hospital.
The gunman's motives for shooting her are unknown at the moment. But I can tell you this, no reason or connection to her, whether he's an ex-boyfriend, jealous fan or some random guy in the parking lot, will ever be good enough or ever be justifiable to describe his actions or understand why he decided to take the life of young woman. Not just the life of a well loved singer. But a young, 22-year-old woman who had her whole life in front of her and deserved better than to be shot for reasons she will never know why.
Hearing stories like this, stories with gun violence and of innocent people getting hurt because of deranged people wanting to take away the good from this world, will always make me sick.
I can never understand why people like him or Sandy Hook Elementary School shooter Adam Lanza, get it in their heads that what they are doing is OK. And I will never understand why the gun laws in the U.S. continue to allow psychos and unstable individuals to purchase and own guns. Do they not read the news? Do they not hear our cries or listen to our pleas for stricter gun laws? No. They seem to be focused on Transgender bathrooms and putting away criminals for victimless crimes. Yes some shootings are done with guns bought illegally, but more than often enough they are done with guns legally purchased.
Christina was more than just a singer. She was an inspiration. An idol. She had a voice you couldn't ignore and made you want to listen. She deserved more than what was given to her. She deserves justice. The man who shot her killed himself shortly after shooting Christina, but there has to be some sort of actions taken. Justice needs to be given.
I don't mean to make this article take away from her death. I don't mean to make her death something it isn't or something different. I'm a fan of hers and will miss her dearly. But I'm done hearing beautiful people like her dying because of someone else's violent motives and intentions.
My thoughts go out to her family and friends and those deeply affected by her death. Rest in peace, Christina Grimmie.
