My thoughts on North Carolina

A lot of people have been asking for my opinion on what has been happening lately regarding the riots and more specifically the riots that occurred recently in Charlotte North Carolina, so here are my thoughts and you can agree or disagree we all have that right.

I believe that the actions that have taken place in Charlotte North Carolina are unjustifiable, people are too quick to anger, too quick to vengeance; people have fallen into this belief that the issue is police officers hating on the black community. People are making the claim that all police officers are racists and bigots and that they are out to get the black people, there are black police officers, Hispanic police officers there are all kinds of officers and the claim that they all hate one minority group is a false claim. This is sad and with this resorts to anger and action which will result in nothing more than more violence and needless death.

People are quick to point out leaders such as Malcolm X and Martin Luther King Jr but people fail to realize that there is a reason why we have a Martin Luther King Jr day and not a Malcolm X day, people lump these two individuals together and forget that Malcolm X promoted violence and segregation while Martin Luther King Jr pushed for togetherness and nonviolent protests and did this all with talking and speeches all without violence. If Martin Luther King Jr was alive this very day I feel that he would agree with me and that he would be sad to see what is happening in America.

We need to stop this madness and come together with cool and calm heads and work together to fix this situation. I’m not saying it is going to be a quick fix, it will take time and we need to be patience. Great things happen with time, think about it for a moment. Fifty or sixty years ago black people weren’t as free as they are to this very day, we have freedom and are able to go to schools, go to college and choose what we want to do. That was not even thought of back then, it was rarely in people’s minds and the further you go back the more you realize how much we have changed, all of it was accomplished by coming together and talking.

William Wilberforce was a great politician who many say had a bright future ahead of him, this man chose to not to pursue that future he picked the hard road, he chose to fight for something that everyone around him thought to be crazy and that it would never happen. William Wilberforce fought to abolish the slave trade, this man spent his entire life fighting to abolish this, to free people. He spent years and years fighting for this in parliament, he fought the battle with his words, he talked and talked and talked not once did the man ever resort to violence. Till finally he succeeded and abolished the slave trade and shortly after he passed away from illness, but he spent his life fighting to end a terrible thing.

I believe here in America we can do the same thing, it will take time but it can happen. We need to stop the yelling, stop the violence and riots and come together and talk and come to a peaceful conclusion. This is why I believe the actions that have happened in Charlotte North Carolina are unjustifiable.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
