Feminism. I'm sorry that your mind has this tainted picture of the word, but it's not what you perceive it to be. According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, feminism is defined as “the belief that men and women should have equal rights and opportunities.” That's all it means. So, stop stigmatizing women to be these angry, man-hating people who just take part in protests. They're not.
And while it's great that women are out there protesting their heart out for tampons and razors to be equally taxed [because menstrual hygiene is a right, not a luxury], I hope that women aren't under the impression that they're fighting a war. A war means that one side will win and the other will lose. I wouldn't want men to lose at all. History has already shown us what happens to the subordinate 50% of the world's population:
You are underpaid.
You are refused the right to learn.
You are discriminated against.
You are harassed.
You are raped.
If we let this happen to men, we defeated the entire purpose. We over-killed the equality concept. It's a thin line and I hope to never see the day where men are discriminated just as much as women are. So let's not say that we are advocating for women to be treated equally as men are treated, but instead on behalf of all women everywhere, say that we are fighting for equal treatment for every human being. (That should be the definition in the dictionary, in my humble opinion). It's not fair that women should just be brought up to par with men, simply by default because they are women. Give women fair treatment because their worth and capability is actually noticeable and because their full worth has been recognized.
Don't undermine someone based on their gender stigma. Grant someone the right to education because they are a human being. Give someone the job interview that they deserve because of their qualifications, not their gender. Motivate someone to pursue any major that they want, simply because they can do it -not because it's meant for one gender only.
So be a feminist, socialist, humanist, or whatever your heart desires. It doesn't matter. Just have enough respect and compassion so that whatever you classify yourself as, doesn't hurt someone else.
And if the world could have stopped classifying people by their gender, race, ethnicity, nationality, sexuality, or any other "-ity", a lot of problems could have been avoided and nonexistent today.
