Currently, there are certain laws and rulings pertaining to abortion.
Under the Japanese Maternal Health Protection Law, approved doctors can practice abortion if the pregnancy would physically endanger or financially burden the mother. Exceptions in abortion legislation have lead to its wide use and acceptance.
In the US Supreme Court Case Roe vs. Wade, the court concluded that the right of privacy entitles a woman to obtain an abortion during the first “trimester”, the first twelve weeks of pregnancy, however, states can limit access to abortion after this period.
Today, there are pro and cons on people’s opinions
Pro:
- Right to Privacy is fundamental
- Potential life is a part of mother’s body, so she should be able to decide about her own body
- Fetus doesn't feel pain when abortion
- A baby should not come into the world unwanted
Cons:
- When life begins at embryo stage, abortion is a murder and there is no justification for killing a life
- Protection of voiceless life
- Woman should take responsibility for her own sexual actions
- Abortion causes psychological damage on mothers
How can this term be used in a legal sense?
Is the fetus considered a “person”? If it is, it is an innocent being, which has the right to life.
On the other hand, there are arguments for the rights of the mother to decide what happens with her body.
The point is, at what point in its development become a human being?
Varying and often contradictory conceptions about the development of life are infamous for their controversy. However, the government must decide when life begins when creating legislation despite the lack of a clear ethical line.
