With 2016 just around the corner, It will soon be time to wave goodbye to the year 2015. But first, let's do a quick rewind of this year and what it will be known for decades from now.
Fashion:
The man bun
Oh, the bittersweet man bun. Breathtaking on some, disturbing on others. Not sure how this trend began but information was released in September of 2015 that the hairdo that keeps away the untamed Tarzan-like flocks of gorgeous men like this, and the occasional not-so-gorgeous man, actually leads to male pattern baldness. Since then it seems that the man bun bandwagon has slowly begun to become less and less crowded. Go figure.
Mermaid hair
Every little girl who once dreamed of being a mermaid one day finally got a step closer to being "part of their world" when this awesome hair dyeing style became a trend. I can only imagine they're all doing this now...
Entertainment:
Superbowl halftime show
Though all the Katy Katz were glued to the screen Katy Perry performed with Missy Elliott who, ultimately, ended up stealing the show with a much desired flashback of some of her biggest tracks.
"25"
Adele’s second album “25,” not only became the best selling album of the year, but it did so only three days after being released.
Star Wars
"The Force Awakens", released December 2015, had one of the biggest opening weekends in movie history. They are now the box office record holders for biggest Thursday night opening, biggest one day growth, biggest December debut and biggest opening weekend of all time.
Wes Craven (1939-2015)
Director of some of our favorite classic horror films, like "Nightmare on Elm Street" and "Scream," passed away at age 76.
B.B. King (1925-2015)
The "king of blues" and the number six greatest guitarist of all time, according to Rolling Stones, passed peacefully, May of 2015.
Politics:
Obergefell v. Hodges
The epic U.S. Supreme Court case that ruled that state level bans on same sex marriage were unconstitutional and finally legalized same sex marriage on a nationwide scale. I think this lovely little gif from Steve Colbert accurately sums up what many Americans were feeling after this decision.
Donald Trump
The silver-spooned real estate mogul announced, in June of 2015, that he was running for POTUS, despite having no former experience in politics or any other governmental position. Regardless of his informality and obsession with gloating while insulting others, Trump managed to gain the lead in the GOP's presidential candidate polls and consistently remained there.
International:
Charlie Hebdo
After the creation of what some considered to be a controversial drawing of the Prophet Muhammad by the French satire magazine "Charlie Hebdo", a retaliation terrorist attack led to three days worth of chaos in Paris, France that claimed the lives of 12 innocent individuals. After the attacks, #JeSuisCharlie, or "I am Charlie", took over social media as an act of sympathy and support for Paris, as well as a symbol of the importance for freedom of expression.
24 hours of terror
Within roughly 24 hours, the terrorist group ISIS executed three separate attacks in Beirut, Baghdad and Paris. Between the three cities, roughly 180 innocent people were killed and over 300 injured.
Social Media:
The Dress
That moment when the internet froze and we all debated about what the color of this horrible looking dress. Some saw it as blue and white, while others saw it as gold and white. Then of course there were those of us who were basically like...
Sports:
Rousey vs. Holms
UFC fight 195 between Rhonda Rousey, the first and former undefeated UFC Women's Bantamweight champion, and Holly Holm was the biggest upset in UFC history when Holm beat Rousey via a knockout. Odds were 22-1 in favor of Rousey.
Superbowl XLIX
New England Patriots won the 2015 Superbowl, with Tom Brady as their MVP.
FIFA Women’s World Cup
That victorious moment when the U.S. women’s soccer team won the FIFA Women's World Cup against Japan. This was the third time the U.S. has won out of the seven championships that have taken place.
All in all, I think it's safe to say that 2015 was definitely an interesting year here in the U.S.
We can't wait to see what happens in 2016!
