On Friday, June 17, “Orange is the New Black” released their fourth season of their Netflix series. Season three had many unexpected surprises at Litchfield Prison that pick right back up in season four in the first episode. In season three, the viewers experienced and felt the emotions of all the inmates had encountered. From Daya becoming a mother and Jonathan Bennett, the baby daddy prison guard, fleeing the scene, to Nicky overdosing and watching Red go through the hard loss of a daughter figure; the viewers were more than ready for this release. As most people binge-watched the entire season the day the series was released, I have only watched the first episode. I can already tell this season is going to be full of drama, suspense and more skeletons to hide in the closest (spoiler)!
Season three ended on such a happy foot, how could anyone forget? The prisoners all escaped camp and went to the lake just outside the prison. Season four opened up on this scene, except the prisoners were all called back to camp. The prisoners obeyed and went back to their bunks, except for Crazy Eyes and her new love interest, Maureen Kukudio. Inmate Kukudio has an obsession with Crazy Eyes' stories she wrote last season for other inmates to read. I find this relationship between Crazy Eyes and Kukudio to mirror how Crazy Eyes was infatuated with Chapman the first couple of seasons.
As for Piper Chapman, she is still trying to play top dog and run the system, especially since the prison just received all new inmates and the prison is becoming overcrowded. Some of the new inmates at the prison are recognizing these traits in Chapman and I think all of her work to intimidate people is going to end up backfiring.
Remember all the talk about Judy King coming to Litchfield prison in season three? She has arrived! Washington watched her court case on the news and was ecstatic to find she was almost bunk mates with Judy King. My prediction, Judy and Red, the prison cook, are going to get into it. Since Judy King is a well-known daytime cooking expert, I can feel a fight for the kitchen starting to brew!
Last but not least, we can’t forget the trouble Alex has already set herself up with. In season three Alex was paranoid of the new inmate, Lolly, who Piper had already met in another prison in Chicago. This season, Lolly saved Alex’s life from a connection from Alex’s old dealer who made their way into the prison. Lolly and Alex worked together to cover up the body, but only time will tell whether their cover up work paid off.
This season has already started out with such chaos with the escape, new inmates, new gaurds and new secrets that this season is going to be the best one yet!
