Returning To School: The Good, The Bad And The Ugly

You'll make it through, I promise

Returning To School: The Good, The Bad And The Ugly

Five days from now, I will be moved into a brand new dorm room, with one of my best friends (and amazing roommate, obviously), be reconnected with my old BFFs from freshmen year (trips to the dining hall with the squad are lit) and get ready for a brand new, prosperous semester ahead.

As for now, however, I'm overwhelmed with emotions as I begin to pack up my clothing (if you ask my parents, way too much of it), start ordering my textbooks (this makes my stomach churn) and get back into the college world (and Twin-XL beds).

It's OK to feel all these feelings before sophomore year begins. There's nothing abnormal about feeling excited, emotional, eager and maybe even a little anxious for this new time.

The end of spring semester I was fresh off a breakup, really emotional and trying to keep my grades up by throwing all my energy into studying for finals (distracting yourself is key). Will it be weird going back to 'Cuse? Yes.

But, weird isn't necessarily bad. It brings new excitement, opportunity and a fresh start, as long as you are thinking positively and have your head up high. Am I a little eager? Hell yeah, I'm sure most students are!

However, don't expect things to run smoothly -- they almost never do! Expect the unexpected. If you run into your ex, stay calm. If your one-night stand ends up being a floor-mate, be polite and say hi. If that girl from biology you didn't like runs into you at Starbucks, act friendly. It's important that you stay calm, cool and collected, no matter what issues / scenarios end up popping up. You know what they say, "Expect the unexpected."

Regardless of what happens, always know you are never alone and enjoy this exciting time! Make the best of the new semester and be even more "on fleek" than last year!

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
