Retail Workers Thoughts During The Holidays

Our least favorite time of the year

Ah, the holidays a.k.a. every retail worker's worst nightmare. Between the extended hours (this means less sleep), the rushing done by the customers, and the crazy sales that seem to be going on until Christmas, this season sure is crazy for those who work in retail. Although it may be the season of giving for most, it is the season of hell for us.

1. Where did all of these people come from?

Yes, I do realize that the holidays are quickly approaching, but I do not remember us being this busy last year, or even last week for that matter. It is like everyone woke up and randomly decided today is the day to buy gifts for everyone

2. What are the special promotions again today?

I swear they change every two hours at this point, it is extremely hard to keep up

3. Why are people in the store at 8 a.m.?

Sure I realize we are technically "open" but my mind is not yet ready to be nice and friendly, let alone help you find the perfect gift for your child.

4. Will there be a time when nobody is in the store and I can just have a minute to myself?

I miss normal retail traffic when I could at least hear myself think for the most part

5. Please get me out of this store alive

Something about the holidays just makes everyone so much crankier, isn't this supposed to be the season of joy?

6. I am not sure what the perfect gift for your child would be

Please stop asking me this, I am not sure what your 12 year old son would love to wear

7. I need my freaking coffee

The only thing that is getting me through this shift

8. Wow, can't wait to do this 20 more times until this season is finally over!!

I'm literally counting down

9. Would I get punched if I punch this customer? Is it worth the risk?

I think it might be worth the risk, so over this lady

10. I do not want to be here any more than you do sir

Yes I understand your wife sent you out to pick up the gifts but I assure you, I probably want to be here even less than you do

11. Can't wait until this season is over

I have had enough of this to get me to next November.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
