15 RVA Eats

We're not gluttons...we're explorers of food.

15 RVA Eats

When you get tired of Dhall, which is extremely rare, these 15 Richmond eats will leave you foodified. In no particular order because they're all too great to rate, I certainly missed these eateries over summer break.

1. The Original Mexican Restaurant, aka ~Mexico's~

A short crawl from Horsepen apartments, Mexico's serves as a hangout for University of Richmond students before they fiesta. Although it may seem like just an average taco-making joint, we college students create a hip, margarita-filled atmosphere. Thursdays just aren't the same without half-priced margs.

2. Shyndigz

As RVA's first "dessert only" restaurant, you'll want to dig into their tasty desserts such as their Kitchen Sink Pie. Let them (college students) eat cake!

3. Cafe Caturra

Just a short drive from UR, Cafe Caturra's chic atmosphere is the perfect setting for a casual soup and salad lunch with friends, a rough brunch after a night out or a dinner with visiting parents eager to pay for you and your friends' meals.

4. Boyer's

I scream, you scream, we all scream for free ice cream. What's better than amazing ice cream? Free, amazing ice cream! Boyer's graciously offers up one free ice cream a week to UR students.

5. Stuzzi

Although Papa John's and Chanellos may taste amazing at 2AM, nothing beats a Stuzzi's pizza.

6. Carytown Cupcakes

Warning: after devouring one Carytown Cupcake, you may develop OCD (obsessive cupcake disorver). You can't buy happiness, but you can buy Carytown Cupcakes, and you can't be sad holding a cupcake.

7. Galaxy Diner

3, 2, 1, blast off! The thought of anything having to do with "blasting off" after a night out isn't pleasing, but this diner's breakfast is out of this world. You'll become an alien to dieting if you choose to order a Nuclear Waste foot long dog with tater tots, french fries, fried Oreos (pictured above) and a milkshake.

8. Burger Bach

Not to be confused with the famous composer, bach is pronounced like "batch." Burger Bach and college students are a match made in heaven. This isn't just your average burger joint. Their beef comes from New Zealand (foreign food...yum) and they offer a range of turkey, chicken and veggie burgers as well. They even have a Hangover Cure burger (shown above) for when you sleep in too late to make it to dhall brunch.

9. Azzurro

Azzurro offers an elegant, softly lit, intimate and comfortable atmosphere typically reserved for meals with visiting parents due to the expensive food. Just a short walk from UR, you'll want to ciao down on their pizza and pasta. The food is so great that customers can't stop and take a picture before they dig in.

10. Osaka

Osaka sushi is soy, soy yummy.

11. Toast

Known by college students for their amazing brunch, I would also toast to their lunch and dinner.

12. The Tobacco Company

Another "my parents are visiting and taking me out to dinner" restaurant, The Tobacco Company's food is smokin' good.

13. Mellow Mushroom

It's hard to stay in a mellow state of mind when there are so many different options of toppings and pizzas to choose from.

14. Can Can Brasserie

Can you do the can can? If you can then I can. Bon Appetit! The Can Can is known for their French style atmosphere and brunch that'll leave you saying "oui oui!"

15. The Daily

Lettuce wrap this list up with The Daily. I wish I could eat here daily. The Daily offers tasty, healthy options and organic fare in their earthy atmosphere.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
