I would just like to disclaim that I in no way wish to discredit the opinions of Gina Davis. She has solid opinions that are clearly supported by a wide population. I both personally enjoyed and was personally offended by this article. I would like to extend on this opinion but also take it in a bit of a different direction. Here is the link to her article.
“First of all, this is the 21st century. Women have never been more respected. Women have more rights in the United States than any other country in the world.”
I completely and utterly agree with this. This is an amazing point that most feminists do not consider. I think that we should still fight for complete equality but keep in mind that we are still decades ahead of other countries. We can strive for improvement and at the same time acknowledge the privileges we are given as women living in the United States.
“Whatever happened to chivalry? Why is it so ‘old fashioned’ to allow a man to do the dirty work or pay for meals? Feminists claim that this is a sign of disrespect, yet when a man offers to pick up the check or help fix a flat tire (aka being a gentlemen), the become offended”
I would just like to extend on this. A lot of women, especially down south, expect a man to pay, and quite honestly, men feel responsible to. That, I believe, is sexist. Women need to understand that men are allowed to offer to pay as a sign of respect, but they should not be offended if they are asked to split the check.
“Our bodies are different. It’s not inequality, it’s just science.”
There is no question that women’s bodies have evolved so that they can raise their children (that’s why we have hips), but that doesn’t mean that that is all we are meant to do.Men excel in a physical sense, while women excel in a mental sense. I did some research and it is speculated that men are either extremely smart or extremely stupid, while women ride all different rates of intelligence.
“However, I don’t believe that being a female entitles me to put down men and claim to be the ‘dominant’ gender.”
This is where I disagree.
Feminist: A person who believes in the social, political, and economic equality of the sexes.
Equality. Not dominance. We simply strive to end the stereotype that men are dominant to women. We in no way want to put down men, but to raise women up. We’ve earned it frankly, after all the bull we’ve been through for the past couple hundred years.
