I recently read another Odyssey article titled 10 Things College Girls Do That College Guys SHOULD Appreciate, But Don't. This article is essentially a list of things, such as maintaining a mani/pedi, working hard in school, and having a strong AF Instagram profile as things that the author feels her male classmates should be taking notice of... but aren't. I wanted to write an article in response to say this:
First off, I don't know a single girl in college that has her nails professionally done, eyebrows threaded, hair cut and colored, make up done everyday, never reuses outfits, AND has flawless skin. If you somehow manage to do all this, props to you but for most college girls, manicures are at the bottom of the spending budget.
Second, do you think that boys don't have to worry about these things as well? The author says that"keeping up on exercising and dieting is literally the hardest thing about being a girl." But guess what? GUYS HAVE TO MAKE TIME FOR THE GYM TOO! They also have to put a lot of effort into getting good grades, and making money in school. Sorry if guys don't notice that you are doing the EXACT SAME THING AS THEM! Don't try to claim that college boys have it so easy when they face the same struggles we do.
Lastly, if you are doing all these things, spending your time and money to impress a boy, you really need to check your priorities. I don't care if you do your makeup and have a cute outfit everyday but you should be doing that for you, not some boy. For me, when I dress up for class, I do it so I feel confident and cute, not for my boyfriend to notice. I totally get how awesome it feels when someone compliments your dress or tells you your makeup is on point. But that shouldn't be the only goal you have when you walk out the door each morning. Do things to make YOU happy, don't let your happiness depend on what others think of you.
