Resolutions You Should Actually Make In 2017

And why you should stick with them.

Resolutions You Should Actually Make In 2017

Another new year, another list of resolutions. Here are a few we should actually consider making in 2017!

1. Learn to say no.

Sure, volunteering and participating in various events is great. However, you don't have to say yes to everything asked of you. It's perfectly ok to say no, especially if you don't have the time/emotional capabilities to tackle whatever is thrown at you.

2. Choose a healthy lifestyle.

We've all seen the crash diets and pills that claim to make weight fall off overnight. Say no to those, instead choose to transform your overall lifestyle into a healthy one. Whether it be drinking more water or exercising regularly, start small and stick with it! Make this year count!

3. Try positive self-talk.

Take 10 minutes every day and reflect on the good things in your life. Practice meditation. Find one positive that came out of each day, and write it down in a journal.

4. Clean out your closet.

It might not be the most fun resolution, but it's definitely needed. Sell the unwanted clothing items for extra cash, or donate them to a local consignment shop. You'll be more organized, and can save lots of time getting ready each morning.

5. Make a budget.

You don't have to plan the entire year out, but laying out financials for three months at a time is a good idea.

6. Set attainable goals.

Make small goals throughout the year, and a time you would like to have them accomplished. Reward yourself when completed.

7. Do one thing that scares you.

Whether it be asking your boss for that well-deserved raise, applying to your dream school/job, do one thing that's out of your comfort zone. Be creative! Challenge yourself this year.

8. Download an app that gives back.

Charity Miles and Walk for a Dog are free to download and free to use. Both donate money to noble causes, and all you have to do is exercise!

9. Use a planner.

Not only are planners stylish now, but they're also a lifesaver for busy schedules. Taking a few minutes to fill out a weekly planner will help you feel more organized and in control of your life.

10. Enjoy the time you've been given.

If there is one resolution that is deemed most important, this might be it. We're not guaranteed anything in this life, and we might as well make the best of every second we have. Laugh, learn, love, fear, and most importantly have hope.

2016 was a tough year overall. The beauty is that 2016 is in the past, and now we have 2017 to look forward to. If one thing in this world is certain, it's that time will continue to move forward. And we move with it! Heads up, let's go get 2017!

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
