With the New Year also comes the expectation of developing goals for yourself, as well as the life you carry out on a daily basis. This tradition is personal and should be realistic- that way, it can be attained within the next 364 days. There are a few resolutions that are extremely common year after year.
Staying Fit and Eating Healthy:
This Holiday season may have gotten the best of you. You might have started with Thanksgiving festivities and ended with the annual Christmas dessert bake off. In between you’ve tried to workout and eat healthy, but sometimes it just isn’t feasible- especially with busy work schedules. More often than not, many people designate eating healthy and staying fit as their resolution, but give up after a month of voluntarily working out on daily basis. With this tendency in mind, I think that most people should make their healthy eating goal realistic- even if it’s just cutting out sweets one more day out of the week or getting an extra 20 minutes of cardio in instead- both of which are extremely efficient and realistic. It’s important to realize that the more localized your goal is, the more likely it is that you will attain it.
Traveling More:
Sometimes I think that people who create this resolution easily get bored with their day to day life. By sitting behind their desk at work, they constantly reflect on what they’re missing on the other side of the country; something that could be more exciting and worthwhile. Traveling more is for the people is continually seek adventure. Maybe you hit a low point in your career or maybe you desperately need a change of scenery. If either are the case, hop on a plane and don’t look back until your wanderlust is satisfied.
Getting Organized:
2016 might have taken a huge toll on your business meetings, family gatherings and any other daily activities that constantly have you looking at your calendar and thinking twice. As the new year approaches, you recognize that you can’t go on any longer without finding some rhyme and reason to your lifestyle. If it’s buying a personal agenda and penciling in everything or even if it’s leaving sticky notes around the house reminding you about certain things, it all depends on the person. Embrace your want to become organized. Like they say “a new year, a new you!”
Spending Less, Saving More:
The person that continually has a pile of bills sitting on their kitchen table; this year was expensive, in more ways than one. Acknowledging that you need to cut back on spending is something to applaud within itself. Most people know they have a problem with overspending, but don’t necessarily do anything about it. By creating a budget and sticking to your limit, one can stay clear from financial troubles and inconsistencies.
Reading More:
The person that always said “I wish I had more time to read for pleasure.” You are always busy and having a hard time finding time to relax and read a genuinely good book. Before the holidays are extremely busy, so you don’t even have the time to sit for more than 30 minutes at a time. Now with the new year rolling around; this may mean time off, exotic vacations or maybe neither of the two. Make it a point to spend at least 15 minutes a day reading a good book. This can help you relax- which is extremely beneficial in the long run.
I think that New Year's resolutions are awesome, but I also understand that more often than not people do not follow through on their goal for the year. We tell each other that this year will be different and unlike any other year that we’ve experienced, until February rolls around. I think that these resolutions that we voluntarily make reflect on our personalities and our aspirations for the future. In order for us to be successful, we need to create realistic goals.
