Donald Trump seems to be a never-ending tornado of negative comments. After this video of him made circuits in the media, there has been an explosion of un-endorsements from Republicans. To all those distancing themselves from Trump — why now? Although probably the most vulgar of Trump's comments thus far, these comments were made more than 10 years ago and Trump has continued to make disgusting comments towards women since then. He once said he would date his daughter. He said a pregnant woman at work is an inconvenience, and he suggested it was Megyn Kelly's 'time of the month' when she made him feel targeted during a debate. He even targeted women on his own side of the political spectrum, making negative comments about Republican presidential hopeful Carly Fiorina's looks and retweeted a not-so-kind photo comparison of his wife and Heidi Cruz. These comments about women — and trust me there are many more — are just the beginning of a long list of negative things Trump has said. He has also targeted veterans, the disabled, Mexicans and other minorities. But this comment, this decade-old "locker room banter," is what these Republicans are finally outraged about?
It is no secret Donald Trump has a history of being accused of sexual assault. He went to court this past week for allegedly raping a 13-year-old aspiring model. He will be going to a hearing for it in December, after he is or isn't elected president. This accusation didn't cause Republicans to disassociate themselves from him? The fact that his ex-wife said under oath that he violently raped her in the '90s didn't cause Republicans to disassociate themselves? This they knew about BEFORE he was chosen as the Republican nominee.
Don't get me wrong, his comments were absolutely disgusting and made me want to vomit imagining what that woman and other women who fell into his path experienced throughout the years. It was wrong on so many levels and I couldn't even imagine him sitting as our president. But, I couldn't imagine him as our president BEFORE this video was released. I already knew Trump felt like he could have anything in the world he wanted. I already knew Trump was a pig. I already knew he was just a reality TV star attempting to become president.
Now, with less than a month before election day (which is November 8th, not November 28th) the Republicans, and all of us, are stuck with Trump as the Republican nominee.
The Republicans put him there and supported him through every comment towards women and groups of people alike. Although I'm finally glad to see some reaction and regret out of some Republicans for putting this man into the position he is in, I implore you to question why this incident has finally led them, and maybe even you, to step back from him and not the countless incidents and accusations before.
