1. Carrie Fisher

Most known for her role as Princess Leia in the Star Wars series, Carrie Fisher was a phenomenal actress, author, and activist. Her sudden death broke the hearts of many Star Wars fans throughout the galaxy, but it's safe to say that she is now one with the force.


2. Alan Rickman

Every witch and wizard was shocked to learn of Alan Rickman's death this year. He performed each role with a depth that captivated his audience, and even Gryffindors fell for Snape's intricate story. He will be missed, always.


3. Prince

The entire world lost a legend when Prince passed. He pioneered for new music styles and served as inspiration for many artists today.


4. George Michael

Perhaps one of the most sudden deaths, George Michael passed away over the Christmas weekend. He was a true entertainer and served as a voice for the LGTB community for years.


5. Jose Fernandez

Jose Fernandez was a pitcher for the Miami Marlins and a rising star. Many even said that he was potential Cy Young material for the upcoming years. He passed following a horrific boating accident.


6. David Bowie

The music industry was devastated after hearing about David Bowie's passing. He died of liver cancer.

7. Alan Thicke

Alan Thicke, father of Robin Thicke, was an actor, songwriter, and game show host. He died while playing hockey with his son, and he suffered from a ruptered aorta.


8. Muhammed Ali

Muhammed Ali was one of the most celebrated sports figures of all time. Up until his death, he called for action to address the oppression faced by Muslims. He died at 74 after three decades of fighting Parkinson's disease.


9. Doris Roberts

Doris Roberts was one of those actresses that you always recognized. She passed away at 90 years old in Los Angeles.


10. Florence Henderson

Florence Henderson is best known for her role as Carol Brady in The Brady Bunch from 1969 to 1974. He passed away at 82.


11. Fidel Castro

The infamous former Cuban leader died in November this year. He was a part of the communist party in Cuba and ruled from 1959 to 2008.


12. Gene Wilder

Gene Wilder will always be the original Willy Wonka, filling our childhood minds with wonder. He died in his home in Connecticut at 83 from complications with Alzheimer's disease.


13. Nancy Reagan

Nancy Reagan was the wife of former president Ronald Reagan. She served as the First Lady from 1981 to 1989. She, too, died after battling Alzheimer's disease.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
