On September 11, 2001, it started off like any other day. Men and women left for work, some saying goodbye to family, as others left an empty home. This day went about like any other day would. Everything begun just as usual but nothing ended quite like it should've. On this day, the day of 9-11 would change history forever, and not for the better. This day would soon become a day of mourning, heartbreak, shock, terror, and remembrance.
Many working men and women walked inside the twin towers of New York City, many of which would not make their way back out. Firefighters, paramedics, police officers, pilots, and many others would also not make their back home. Everyday people boarded planes and took flight for terror. At exactly 8:46 a.m., flight 11 struck the the floors 93 to 99 of the North Tower of the World Trade Center. At 8:46 a.m., a clear day in September, America broke down. Soon after, it was clear that this was an act of terrorism as the second plane of flight 175 crashed into the South Tower. Following the attack of the World Trade Center, the Pentagon was attacked as well. Flight 93, originally meant for the attack of the White House, landed in Somerset County, Pennsylvania. The failed attack killed another 40 passengers and handful of crew members. All in all, 2,996 people were killed on 9-11 and 6,000 or so were left injured.
The events of 9-11 still haunt America still today. We all remember where we were and what we were doing on that tragic day. If you were too young to understand or remember, you have heard others retell their day of shock and terror. This year, the year of 2016, marks the 15th anniversary of this heartbreaking day for America. Every year, it seems to become less noticed and more recognized rather than remembered. However, the lives affected by 9-11 will never forget. Loved ones of those who lost someone on 9-11 will never forget the memories they shared and what they will never get back. For many, they were witness just outside of the towers, surrounding New York City. Can you imagine? Can you imagine the terror of not hearing your loved one's voice at the other end of the phone call? These men and women will never forget what took the lives of the ones they loved away. So why should we forget? As a nation, we were witness to the events, rather that be through television, radio, or a simple phone call. This day of terrorism took away just about 3,000 lives plus many more whom lost their lives later on due to these events. We should all remember those who lost their lives and those who saved lives rather than just noticing it as a day of recognition.
The day of 9-11 begun like any other day would. However, it left the nation with a scar that can never be covered. We can only treat this wound with respect by making sure to leave no one behind when remembering 9-11. Many were affected by the events that occurred on the clear, September day of 2001. Let's not forget the men and women whom didn't get to wish their loved ones a goodnight or the thousands of heroes whom dedicated their time. We are America and as Americans, we should not turn our heads from the true reality of our world today. We should join hands, regardless of our issues with one another, and remember the day of September 11, 2001. A day that changed our history and joined America together as one.
