Mid-February of every year, this time comes around where everyone wants a someone. Usually near February 14th... Valentines Day. The store aisles are full of heart shaped chocolates, dozens-on-dozens of romantic red roses, and giant, fuzzy stuffed animals. Everyone with a significant other counts down the days, and everyone without a significant other plans movie nights with their friends, or "Anti-Valentine's Day" festivities. Here's my thing — I really love Valentines Day. I think it's one of the most enjoyable holidays, no matter your relationship status. I haven't been in a serious relationship since my junior year of high school, but seeing the stores full of pink and red hearts makes me so happy, knowing that love is real and it's out there waiting.
But here's the thing: I don't want to just feel wanted. I don't want a false sense of love. I don't want love just to have a physical touch. I know real love, and I know this guy that holds my heart in the palm of His hand. I know this guy with unconditional love pouring out of His soul into this world, that yearns for nothing more than our hearts in return. I know love in the purest form. I'm not in a hurry to search for a temporal love.
I was sitting with some friends, and one girl had recently gotten out of a 2 year relationship. The cool thing? She's happier now than she's been in a long time. She's started really living her life — she goes out more, she's getting more involved on campus, and she's building really strong friendships. She's fully enjoying her life now, because she stopped trying to force something to happen and let life take it's course.
What a lot of people don't realize (I know it's taken me some time) when they wake up is that there's no need to search for that love... remember that especially when you're dreading the 14th day of February. The purest form of love is standing right in front of our eyes, asking for nothing but mutual passion. There's a guy that loves you immeasurably more than you could imagine, and he laid his life down for you over 2000 years ago.
Once you make the slightest realization of this fact, and start living for what you've been made for... just then, usually when you least expect it, someone will walk into your life. Someone who accepts your heart and loves you in all of your flaws. You'll find a friend who builds you up to the person you were made to be. They'll raise you higher, encourage you, trust you, believe you, and make you a stronger version of yourself. When you stop searching to find and start to give your own life's passions attention, you'll find your happiness. You will find your happy place, and then someone will walk into your happy place and bring you comfort, peace, and all of the love.
So, don't find yourself down this Valentine's Day while walking the aisles of Walmart. Don't dwell on it. Don't allow these tangible items and symbols of love let you forget True Love. Buy yourself a box of chocolate and be happy knowing that you know Love.
Or, if you're walking the aisles excited about the holiday with your babe, keep in mind who created this love and who loved you first. Don't let the material items shade your vision. Give your boy (or girl) a huge hug and kiss and let them know what a blessing they are. Then, thank the guy who gave you the ability to love.
Run for His heart until your soul is on fire, and then keep the flame burning. Find someone that makes the flame even bigger and brighter. Allow all of the relationships in your life to make you stronger, brighter, and happier. Be the person you were made to be and maybe your path will cross with someone who knows the same Love, or maybe it already has. Either way, live your life happily and let the Light guide your way through.
