Well ladies and gents, the dreaded day for all singles is coming up soon… it’s almost Valentine’s Day. Every year, February 14th rolls round and love is in the air, it’s a wonderful day for couples to rekindle their romance and to appreciate each other and everything that they do. Everyone has loved Valentine’s Day at one point in time; think back to those times in elementary school when you filled out the small little cards and gave them to your classmates. It was such an amazing feeling to show people that you loved them, not in a romantic way but in a simple gesture of friendship. Back then, Valentine’s day was about relationships between friends, not romance. This year, try to focus less on the romantic aspect of it and take advantage of the time to appreciate the other relationships around you.
Try going out on a friend date, its the perfect opportunity to take the time to go out to dinner or just simply spend time with a friend that you don’t see enough. It could be anyone that you can sit down with and have an enjoyable night and reminisce on the wonderful relationship you two have built. It could also be a group friend date, one person is great to catch up with but multiple friends getting together is a recipe for a great night.
Relationships aren’t all about romance, we often forget that relationships pertain to all the people we have interactions with. The most important relationship you have is with yourself, so why not take the time to treat yourself this Valentine’s Day? Save up for that new purse you’ve wanted or treat yourself to a mani-pedi, anything that will make you happy because you are your most important priority!
You could also spend time with your family this Valentine’s day, whether that be with both parents, only one, your siblings or aunt, uncle or grandparents, just spending time with them will hopefully remind you of the love that you all have for each other. It’s also a good for you to take the time to reflect on all the love they have and given to you.
You could also do a secret Valentine! There’s nothing like having a secret admirer, but really what’s better than having it be one of your friends that know you best? Have all your friend’s names written down with a few one their favorite things and place them in a hat. Draw names until everyone has a person and on Valentine’s Day spend the night together exchanging little gifts you all purchased and soaking up each other’s company.
This Valentine’s day, don’t sit around and sulk about your singleness. Remember that you are a unique human and everything really does happen for a reason, maybe this time next year you will be appreciating a romantic relationship instead. If you are single this Valentine’s day, take the time to appreciate the people and the other forms of relationships you have around you because that is the love that matters the most.
