FInals week is one of the most stressful parts of any semester. For those of us who weren't born naturally good test-taking skills or a photographic memory, it's a week full of cramming, anxiety, and late nights in the library. It's been so bad already that I've already seen people in public shaking while calculating what they need to get on their finals to get their desired grades, and finals week hasn't even started yet. Sadly, being able to relax is a learned skill not all of us are fortunate enough to have developed, but don't be afraid: I've got a list full of relaxation techniques for you to use to beat away at the finals week stress!
1. Find a quiet area where you can lie down.
Lie in a comfortable position on your back with your hands at your sides. Close your eyes and take deep breaths.
2. Increase tension in your muscles to distract you.
Clench your preferred hand into a fist. Increase the tension in your arm as much as you can. Focus on the feeling this creates. Concentrate on your arm, and then let it relax before straightening your fingers out. Do the same with your other hand. You can also do this with your legs.
3. Lie down somewhere and make your body feel as limp as possible.
Take slow, deep breaths.
4. Create a playlist of soothing songs.
It can be made up of either your personal favorite songs or songs designed specifically to help people relax.
5. Concentrate on how well you did on others.
Think about other finals you've taken and done well on, and how nervous you were about them before you took them.
6. Have a friend give you a scalp or arm massage.
Friends and support are essential during this ti,e/
7. Go to the gym and engage in some mild exercise.
It'll release endorphins and distract you from your exam worries.
