In today's world, everyone is so worried about winning that they can't help but hope for people to lose. The constant pressure for one to succeed pushes people to hope the worst for others, sometimes even their best friends. Hoping something will go wrong for other's so you can feel gratification is not what you should be striving for.
Be Happy For People
Someone achieved a higher grade than you in the one class that you thought you understood, be happy for them. You have been practicing all week for your band audition and someone got the seat you wanted. You finally found a guy/girl that you genuinely like, but another person gets to them first. That one person that seems to always win, get the role, get the guy/girl, and never loses, be happy for them. It might be frustrating to always be against the one person that always wins, but truthfully you don't know their life. They could be losing in so many other aspects in life that you can't see or imagine.
Use Other's Successes As Motivation
That one person in your math class never studies a day in their life and gets a 100%. Someone stole the lead role in the musical you have been dreaming about since freshman year. You've been working out constantly trying to lose weight and your friend tells you she lost weight after she just finished a bag of chips. We have all been there and it is extremely frustrating, but put that anger to use. Use that anger to strive even higher toward your dreams and goals. Use other's successes as motivation for you to reach your goal.
Mistakes Happen Learn From Them
Everybody makes mistakes whether you see them actually making the mistake or not. Learn from them. Don't wallow in self pity after you bombed that Biology test. Work your butt off next time learning that maybe studying in a group does not work for you. Learn that you should've practiced for your role more than watch that new series on Netflix. You wanted that 4.0 so bad, but you decided to take on twelve new activities that took away from your studying time. Mistakes happen every day, learn from them.
In the end, being mad at someone succeeding won't make you any better. Try and be happy for people when they succeed and understanding when they fail. We all know we wouldn't want people hoping for us to fail when we've worked so hard to succeed.
