Congratulations to the U.S. Women's National Team for winning the world cup!
Some call it redemption, others call it revenge.
Four years after losing to Japan in the 2011, the U.S. team came out with vengeance and beat Japan 5-2 in the World Cup Finals. This is the team's first world cup title since 1999 and a record-breaking third title. But that wasn't the only record that the team broke during the final. The U.S. is the first team to score more than two goals in a Woman's World Cup final.
Carli Lloyd's performance was also record-breaking--she scored three goals in the first 16 minutes. Lloyd's hat trick is the first in a Women's World Cup final.
In case you didn't think this was impressive enough, the first two goals that Lloyd scored were the fastest scored goals in FIFA history.
Everything was going Lloyds's way; even when she wasn't trying, she still made it in the net.
From the very start of the game, the United States let the world know that they have not forgotten about its 2011 loss to Japan. In 2011, Japan came back to beat the U.S. in penalty kicks in the final. But in July 5, 2015, the U.S. scored it's first goal within the first three minutes of the game.
The other two goals were scored by Lauren Holiday and Tobin Heath.
This historic team includes stars such as Abby Wambach, Alex Morgan and Hope Solo. They played like a team, with the same goal in mind.
A day after America's birthday, the U.S. Women's National Team gave us another reason to be proud to be American.
