Redcoat Kid: Aaron Bubb

A Q&A with Lincoln's Newest Artist

Redcoat Kid: Aaron Bubb
Jessica Reiser

I have known Aaron Bubb for a little while, but only recently discovered he is quite the talented artist. I sat down with him to ask him a few questions to get to know him and his love of music a little better.

Q: Where are you from?
A: "Born and Raised in Lincoln, Neb. I have lived for a year in St. Joseph, Mo. while attending Missouri Western State University, MWSU and over a year in Rolla, Mo. while attending Missouri University of Science and Technology."

Q: When did you first realize you wanted to do something with music?
A: "When I was in high school I used to dabble in talent shows and hip hop competitions, however my true realization that I could achieve something substantial in music was when I started attending University of Nebraska-Lincoln. I began going to school for Music Technology and I realized that there is no better job in the world than to make music that tells a story through my songs and that motivates, excites, and hypes people up."

Q: Where do you get the inspiration for your lyrics?
A: "My lyrics usually come from a variety of influences. I like to tell stories through my songs and a lot of those come from past experiences, relationships and my overall engagement through my life. I want to create music that can inspire people to get through anything. I love to make party tracks too that everyone can vibe to and have a good time."

Q: How does rapping/singing make you feel?
A: "Usually when I get on the track and start recording or writing, I get into a concentrated zone, so to speak. Once I am in the right state of mind to create killer songs it just comes naturally to me, like having a conversation. It's an incredible feeling."

Q: What was your first song? What was it about?
A: "The first song I ever wrote was called 'Young Talent' and it was my freshman year in high school. I wrote it so I could perform at a local talent show with my buddy, Connor Mac. I did a show with a local group called 'trill boyz ne' who went to my high school and people started to like my music. It was all about being young and having a passion for creating tracks that could reach people in a different way. I wanted to show that young people who have a dream to do whatever it is that they want to can make it if they work hard."

Q: What is your favorite song and why?
A: "Currently my favorite song I have out is probably 'My Dreams.' I enjoy the way my voice blends with the beat and I think lyrically its a good song. One of my favorite songs that I'm working on is called 'Just Wanna be Famous' that will be released with my mixtape May 29."

Q: What is your ultimate goal?
A: "Honestly, I would like to see how far I could take this music career. I would love to gain more notoriety and locate a large fan base. But mainly I would like to just be able to reach people through my music and help inspire them to do whatever they want to. Everyone has a dream, mine just happens to be music, and I'm working towards my goal. I want other people to know that they can do that too."

Q: Where did you come up with the name “Redcoat Kid"?
A: "It's actually a tribute to my Grandfather who essentially started the entire computer technology and education school at Nebraska. He was an extremely influential person in my life and after his passing I got handed down his special nebraska "Red Coat" which is the one that I wear today for all of my performances. It's a catchy name and I wanted to create an image or a brand that people can instantly recognize when they see a picture of me or hear my songs."

It was really amazing to get to hear how much passion he has for what he does.

"Just know that I don't put my music out there to try to become something more than I already am. I want to stay true to myself and my fans and the people that I love and surround myself with. When I make it to the top, Just know that I'm bringing my whole crew with me!" said Bubb.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
