Red, White And Bernie

Red, White And Bernie

The 2016 Presidential Election started out as the hottest thing in entertainment, hotter than the Kardashians. Like usual, as the debates progressed, the candidates began to dwindle out. That's when things started to get real and vastly scary. Watching Donald Trump rise to the top of the Republican Nominee pyramid stunned a lot of America. Hilary Clinton gained the Democratic party nomination but was in close pursuit by socialist Bernie Sanders. Out of all of the unique candidates this election, Bernie Sanders topped the charts. Throughout my following of this unique man through debates, social media, and news articles, I have come up with 5 very enticing reasons to vote for Bernie Sanders this election season. I decided to list these reasons without bashing Hilary Clinton or Donald Trump due to the endless bashing they have already gone through. I think it's more important to expose the positives of a person rather than the negatives.

1. Bernie Sanders truly cares for the American people. He has run his presidential campaign with no ties to Wall Street, Super PACS or "big money." He doesn't believe in working for "the man." Bernie wants to keep money in America in order to help achieve greatness with our healthcare system, economy, education and environment.

2. He has substantial ideas as well as execution. In the 1980's Sander's was elected the mayor of Burlington, Vermont, and then re-elected three more times. His great leadership and ideas landed Burlington on the nation's top 10 places to live and Bernie as one of the top ten mayors in 1987.

3. His work speaks for itself. Sanders has served 16 years in the House of Representatives and participates in a multitude of committees such as the Veterans Committee, The Senate Budget Committee, Environment and Public Works Committee, Energy and Natural Resources Committee and Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee.

4. He's not the money-greedy political schmuck. One of his main platforms for the election was to break up big banks. He believes if a business is too big to fail, then it is too big to exist.

5. Bernie Sander's represents a change. Socialism is not communism, and many people seem to forget that social security is a socialistic idea. America is still a new country with many issues yet we continue to vote black or white: Republican or Democrat. Why would it be so bad to let another party rule for a little while? His ideas are forward thinking and well-thought out.

Whether you have already picked your favorite candidate, or you're pulling your hair out trying to decide who to vote for, the election is coming up faster than we think. Just because Hilary Clinton won the democratic nomination, does not mean that Bernie does not stand a fighting chance. We need to think about the future of America for ourselves as we grow older as well as our future children. Change can be achieved successfully and I think that can happen under the presidential stylings of Bernie Sanders.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
