You guessed it; it’s that time of the year again. Formal recruitment is right around the corner. Joining a sorority was one of the best decisions I made as a college student. I have met some of the greatest people and made friendships that I know will last for a very long time. As a member of a Greek chapter at Kennesaw State University, I can say that I do not regret going Greek. There are so many opportunities to better yourself as well as your college experience by joining a sorority. Not only is it a simple way to meet people and make friends, you are also given the chance to take on leadership roles and give back to the community.
To sum up the process of recruitment in two words, it is
exciting and confusing at the same time. Potential new members learn to get a
feel for each sisterhood that is offered on campus and where they think they
will fit in the most. I went through recruitment a year ago, so I truly
understand how nerve wracking the process can be. At the end of the day, it
will be all worth it. Here are a few thoughts regarding the process.
1. SRAT life is nothing like the movies and shows!
I know you've heard it over and over again, about how sororities are depicted completely different in movies than in real life, but it's true.
2. It's no joke that PNM's look like this:
So many girls are going to be going through formal recruitment that, at times, it may be hectic.
3. Feeling like royalty every time you enter a new party.
4. Be prepared to watch lots of sisterhood videos.
My favorite part of each night was definitely being able to watch the different videos and getting a feel of what the sisterhoods were like.5. After leaving each party you feel like:
As a PNM, you want to be pumped and excited after each round. The hard part will be choosing who you want to go back to and see the next day.
6. Waking up the next morning to find out that you're going back to the sorority you want.
It's always better the second day around when going back to your chosen sorority because you'll most likely get to see familiar faces, making the day more comfortable.
7. Your feet are going to hurt, and you are going to get "hangry."
You'll most likely be in heels for a long amount of time, and you may not be able to endure the pain. Just keep in mind that bid day will be here before you know it.
8. The parties are so loud that you have to yell.
9. Leaving pref night like:
Usually, you'll get asked back by two sororities to share their preference night with, and sometimes you may be torn between the two.10. Waiting for your bid like
11. Opening your bid and running out to your new squad.
After countless days of standing in heels, having numerous conversations, and making decisions it's finally here. Running out to your bid day buddy is going to be one of the best feelings!
