How to Survive your Recruitment Blues

The Recruitment Phunk

And so it begins, we're in the midst of sorority recruitment...a very stressful time for Greek women and potential new members everywhere. Not only is workshop and recruitment stressful, it is also time consuming and lots of hard work. During these few weeks we tend to lose sight of the reason we are doing this. We get frustrated, anxious, stressed, and have about 75 other emotions you aren't usually feeling. For me personally, in the midst of the craziness, I find it so easy to complain about why I don't want to be here and have millions of other things to be doing, which yes is true. I have 2 jobs, I need to prep for school, I need to move into my new apartment, unpack, breathe, and sleep which seems really difficult to manage during recruitment. In the middle of one of my rants, my mom texted me and told me to have a good day, which is a daily occurrence in my family so I didn't really think anything of it. She knew I was getting aggravated about our long hours and constant singing, so this time she added something to her text that really made me re-think this whole process. She reminded me about my own recruitment experience and how I enjoyed meeting girls up and down the row and that those girls did everything possible to make my recruitment experience the best it could possibly be. It reminded me that now its my turn to give someone that same experience. As much as I would love to be relaxing by the pool or making money at work, during recruitment that just isn't really an option and by affiliating myself to a Greek organization I made a commitment to the chapter to give them my all for the few weeks that we are in rush. Think about it this way, you have 2 weeks to catch up all of your friends on your summer, meet tons of new girls and tell them about your summer and listen about theirs, and you're learning valuable skills for the real world. Recruitment is basically one big networking lesson that we are perfecting for when we are out in the real world. And always remember that on Bid day, it will all be worth the stress and anxiety! Do it for your future littles, grant littles, great grand littles and even great, great grand littles! When you find yourself in a "funk" think back to your own experience and remind yourself that even though its hard, its always going to be worth it.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
