For about two years now I've had two people try to convince me to take up CrossFit. And much to their dismay, I kept refusing, because I always thought that what I was doing was working. While I do see some improvements in with the workout routines I have been doing, I just haven't seen enough to keep me on the same path. That being said, I'm going to do it. I'm going to give CrossFit a chance.
My decision to switch over from what I guess you would call "normal" lifting to CrossFit wasn't from my friends, Charlie and Ashley. While their persistence was a factor, I did watch a documentary on Rich Froning. Rich Froning was an animal. He won the CrossFit games four times. That's amazing. I would be content with winning once, but to win it four more times after that is something special. That's what I want. I want to be so exhausted by the end, that when I look back, I know that I gave it everything that I had. I don't have to win anything, but completing a workout will be good enough.
I know, I know. I've been so hard on CrossFit. I mean, I bashed it pretty hard in my article The Types of People You Hate at the Gym, but since then, I have had a change of heart. My older sister may or may not ever talk to me again, but life's about taking chances, and I think this is a chance I'm willing to take. To clarify, my sister is a female body builder, and body builders don't like CrossFitters. Or so I'm told. I understand the dangers that come with CrossFit, but risks are what make life fun, right?
If there is one thing I am worried about it's becoming one of those typical CrossFitters that are all up on your social media telling you all about their WOD (Workout of the Day). But, we all know I only do that on very rare occurrences. Or if my arm was twisted into doing it. But I digress.
In short, I'm excited to be starting something new, but even more excited to be doing something that is going to make me happy. That's not to say that what I am doing currently doesn't make me happy, I just feel that it isn't enough. I need a new challenge. I need to overcome adversity, just as I have during different periods of my life. So watch out, I'm coming for you.
